The Bay of the Somme is definitely one of the most beautiful bays in the world, thanks to its multifaceted landscapes and its changing nature. To discover this pretty corner of nature, head for Cayeux-sur-Mer. Cayeux-sur-Mer, a pretty seaside resort in the Somme region of Picardy, is one of the leading destinations in the captivating Baie de Somme. One of the oldest seaside resorts in France, it is bordered by the English Channel, between Mers-les-Bains, Le Tréport, Saint-Valery-sur-Somme and Le Crotoy.
With its 400 multi-coloured bathing cabins facing the sea, this family resort on the Picard coast is nestled between several protected natural areas, which you will absolutely have to visit during your stay in Cayeux-sur-Mer. From the Pointe du Hourdel, gateway to the Baie de Somme, you can observe the largest seal colony in France. At low tide, in summer, some 400 sea calves and over 100 grey seals settle comfortably on the sandbanks of the Hourdel to enjoy the sun's rays. Whether you are on foot, on horseback or by bike, there are many hiking routes in Cayeux-sur-Mer, through the dunes, the beach, the pebble strips, the coastal paths and the maritime pine woods. In all, more than 146 kilometres of trails, including 46 kilometres of bike paths and 9 discovery trails, cross the Somme Bay. We advise you to take the white road from Le Hourdel towards the centre of Cayeux-sur-Mer : in this way, during this remarkable walk of 3 kilometres, you will be able to contemplate the local fauna and flora through an immense dune zone, and thus to benefit from calm landscapes as far as the eye can see. To observe the birds, direction the Hâble d'Ault, a large nature reserve located south of Cayeux-sur-Mer : former mooring area for ships in the Middle Ages, this ornithological reserve is one of the most beautiful natural sites in the Bay of the Somme with the Parc du Marquenterre (36 kilometres away). With family or friends, this beautiful walk through the lagoon protected from the onslaught of the sea will allow you, with or without binoculars, to discover nearly 300 species of migratory birds and multiple treasures of nature.
On the city side, the history of Cayeux-sur-Mer is intimately linked to fishing and the exploitation of its famous pebbles (used notably for road construction). Since the 19th century and thanks to the rise of seaside tourism, Cayeux-sur-Mer as well as its hamlets of Brighton (very appreciated for its pine woods) and La Mollière have been equipped with sublime Belle Epoque villas that you can discover during your visit, as well as a casino, very popular since it is the only casino on the Picardy Coast. Ideal for both summer and winter walks, the Cayeux-sur-Mer plank trail (2 km long) is one of the largest in Europe. Very appreciated by visitors, it faces the 14 kilometres of its immense pebble beach which stretches as far as Pointe du Hourdel. Cayeux-sur-Mer is an ideal playground for board sports such as kayaking, but also (and above all !) kitesurfing, windsurfing and sand yachting. It is very popular with sports enthusiasts who come here each year to practice their favourite water sports. The paddle and the longe-côte are also very popular along the Cayolan coast. At low tide the fine sandy beach is discovered and gives free rein to outdoor activities such as strolling, fishing on foot, surfcasting (angling), kite flying competitions or sand castles.
Finally, in terms of gastronomy, you will find many freshly caught seafood products on your plates. You will not be able to leave without having eaten the traditional mussels and chips facing the sea, whose Bouchot mussels are grown in the Bay of the Somme, as well as sauerkraut from the sea, shells, shrimps or even salicornia. You can also enjoy a good leek pie, picarde string, and Badrée pie, a kind of flan typical of Cayeux-sur-Mer.

Parc du Marquenterre for photo enthusiasts (go there in the morning because at the end of the afternoon there is too much backlighting). Nice walk in St Valéry. Good point for the De Cayeux market and its good products.
