A village full of wonders, Giens, on the eponymous peninsula, is a balcony overlooking the azure sea whose panoramas amaze and fascinate. Preserved, wild, unique, the Presqu'Île de Giens is a small concentrate of the best that the Mediterranean has to offer. Linked to the mainland by two broad 5-kilometre-long sandy corridors (called "tombolos"), between which the pink flamingos of the Pesquiers salt marshes like to land, Giens is a village of contrasts above all. With its panoramic view over the port of La Madrague, the Golden Islands, Toulon and the star resorts of the Côte d'Azur, this small village with its air of the end of the world is home to pretty, colourful houses with shutters painted in a thousand shades, houses with tousled, colourful and bushy flowerbeds, which give Giens an old-fashioned, seductive and bewitching charm. After taking the pulse of the town from the Place Saint-Pierre or the park of the Château Saint-Bernard, head for the main attraction of Giens: its beaches.
Here, hiking fans will be able to discover the contours of the peninsula thanks to the Coastal Trail, which offers almost twenty kilometres of routes accessible to experienced hikers as well as Sunday walkers in search of quiet strolls. Before venturing out on the island, take the time to take the Route du Sel and visit the Etang des Pesquiers: a beloved place for migratory birds, this wild, protected site with abundant nature will allow you to discover all the wealth of the local fauna and flora. After taking the time to observe the pink flamingos, head for the seaside! Below the coastal paths, rocky islets sculpted by the wind and the sea, wild creeks with turquoise water, small intimate harbours and fine sandy beaches will follow one another before your eyes, amazed by so much beauty. It is difficult not to succumb to the urge to stop over at these splendid creeks, from which you can swim (unsupervised bathing) or stroll under the sun. The Almanarre beach, 5 kilometres long, marvels with its clear sand and dreamy views of the sea. Well exposed to the winds, it is a delight for windsurfers, but also for kitesurfers who like to challenge the waves that caress its sand. The beaches of La Badine and La Bergerie along the east tombolo will offer you beautiful idleness parentheses facing the Golden Islands, while the beaches of La Vignette, La Pointe des Chevaliers, Le Four à Chaux, Le Pradeau and La Darboussière will be perfect for quiet swimming. In addition to surfing and sailing, you can opt for a wide range of water activities along the Giens coastline, from scuba diving to snorkelling, paddleboat rides, funboarding, sea kayaking, pedal boats... Not to mention boat trips! From the small port of Niel in particular, you can embark on magnificent sea trips. In the direction of the Golden Islands, Porquerolles, Port-Cros and Le Levant, or along the coast leading to Hyères, Toulon or Le Lavandou to the east, memories guaranteed under the Var sun!
