Overlooking the valleys of the Laye and the Largue river which waters it, Saint-Maime is set in the hollow of rocky crests particularly suitable for family activities in the heart of nature. In the country of Forcalquier, in the heart of the wonderful Luberon Regional Natural Park, this charming village perched between 351 and 797 metres above sea level offers many postcard-like panoramas of the abundant nature typical of this beautiful corner of Provence. To savour its splendour, take the time to linger in its small streets that climb up towards its church, its beautiful stone houses and its numerous fountains. At the top of the ridge, the 12th century chapel of Sainte-Agathe is worth the detour, as is the medieval castle of the 13th century. Admire the ruins of its ramparts, its tower, and it is from this listed site that you will be able to contemplate a breathtaking panorama of the whole Forcalquier area, as beautiful by day as at nightfall when the sky is filled with its magic.

Saint-Maime is easy to visit on foot, by bike or on horseback, because it has a wide range of marked and safe itineraries, which will allow you (whether you are a Sunday sportsman or a seasoned walker) to easily discover the most beautiful faces. There are also many hiking trails running through the Luberon Regional Nature Park, which will allow you to discover the splendour of the sunny banks of the Durance, the Lac des Buissonnades, the neighbouring commune of Dauphin, Saint-Michel l'Observatoire and its astronomy centre, the Vannades lake, but also Manosque and its splendid heritage. Don't hesitate to push your visit a little further, in the direction of the magnificent Valensole plateau: located about thirty minutes from Saint-Maime, this immense plateau totally covered with lavender is breathtakingly beautiful. Privileged spot of the "instagrammers" who come here to immortalize superb photos, it is a perfect place to relax, for beautiful excursions that smell of lavender, and Provence.
