On the banks of the Durance river, in the heart of the wonderful Luberon region, Sigonce is 9 kilometres from Forcalguier, about 30 minutes from Sisteron (further north) and Manosque (south).

Wonder of Provence established on the limestone hills of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Sigonce, a small authentic village, is perched between 414 and 744 metres above sea level. Sheltered from the winds by the mountain of Lure, this refuge full of poetry is a real little paradise of tranquillity; this is certainly what, a few years ago, seduced the singer Jane Birkin and her companion Jacques Doillon, who fell in love with Sigonce to the point of buying a house there, "La Barboche". To get a feel for the character of the place, there's nothing better than a little stroll in the heart of the old village. Here, the old houses full of charm have been tastefully restored, the shady and flowery squares stand side by side with a certain harmony with the period residences made of old stones full of history. It is impossible to miss the 14th century church of Saint-Claude, easily remarkable with its slate roof, the old flour mill situated opposite it, or the Clock Tower, topped by a bell and a campanile. Crossing the main street, you will discover wash houses, splendid fountains and numerous oratories; follow their path to climb up to the heights of the town, dominated by its imposing castle. The Château de Bel-Air, as it is called, is a magnificent 17th century mansion, typical of the local architecture and remarkable thanks to its beautiful medieval part kept intact. If this private property is not open to the public, the walk is still worthwhile as from this perched viewpoint you can admire magnificent panoramas of the town and its surroundings. Against the backdrop of a generous and abundant nature, Sigonce is, it can be said, the perfect picture postcard of Provence. This splendid and preserved nature, it invites you tirelessly, for sports or non-sports strolls, and to discover the most beautiful corners of this city of the south of France.

After having crawled through the city, it is impossible not to enjoy the coolness of the Lauzon or the Durance for a few refreshing swims. After bubbling under the sun and having a few water fights with the family, continue your visit of the surroundings in the direction of Ganagobie to see its imposing abbey Notre-Dame-de-Ganobie famous for its door and its magnificently worked arch. The Château-Arnoux-Saint-Auban lake (30 minutes further north) is worth a visit for hiking and wildlife photography enthusiasts, as is the Lac des Buissonnades (19 kilometres further south), which is perfect for swimming, family sports and fishing.
