Located on the heights of the department of Aveyron, in the Occitania region, the commune of Séverac-le-Château offers an ideal setting for those who love the outdoors and history.

Dominated by its imposing feudal fortress, Séverac-le-Château multiplies the invitations to come and discover the splendour of its historical heritage. A true plunge into time, the city has kept an important architectural capital from its past: stroll along its old medieval streets to discover, perched at the very top of its rocky promontory, the Château de Sévérac. Overlooking the entire village by 800 metres, this fortified building surrounded by ramparts will transport you straight to the time of the knights and lords. Built from the beginning of the 10th century, it was shaped by history according to the tastes of its various owners, to finally display a Renaissance style, remarkable for its curtains, ramparts, watchtowers and interior decorations. If it is worth a visit for its walls steeped in the history of France, we also recommend it for the superb panoramas it offers over the Grands Causses Regional Natural Park and the Aveyron Valley. After visiting this majestic site, walk through the cobbled streets of its historic city, pass through the Latazou Gate and the Peyrou Gate, and finally take the time to discover the Place de la Fontaine: absolutely magnificent, this square has some very beautiful period monuments, half-timbered houses and picturesque medieval shops. Go through the Maison des Consuls, the moulin de la Calsade, the Marché Couvert, the Saint-Sauveur church and the Musée Archéologique, before visiting the Maison de Jeanne : the oldest residence in Aveyron located at 10 de la rue de Belvezet, this 14th century residence is distinguished by its architecture made of half-timbering and cob. If you are visiting Séverac-le-Château during the summer period, we advise you to participate in its medieval activities for a total immersion in the atmosphere of the time!

Séverac-le-Château is also a popular destination for its magnificent panoramas and its particularly generous nature. The Sévéragais region is criss-crossed by a multitude of hiking, cycling and equestrian routes. 12 circuits from 6.5 to 20 kilometres long await amateur and experienced walkers, to enable them to discover the dolmens and vaulted fountains that line the Olip Valley. Don't miss the Puech de Buzeins! Culminating at an altitude of 864 metres, this ancient volcano offers incomparable panoramic views of the Monts d'Aubrac, Lévézou, Cévennes and Causses du Sévérac. Feel free to push your visits towards the surrounding villages: Lavernhe l'élégant, Saint-Grégoire and its flowers, Lapanouse and its medieval sites, Saint-Amans-de-Varès and Recoules-Prévinquières are only a few minutes from Séverac-le-Château. Millau and its viaduct are also to be added to your list of visits: being located only about twenty minutes from Sévérac, the one that is among the highest bridges in the world is absolutely worth seeing!

As for sports, in addition to hiking, you will be able to enjoy a wide range of activities: quad biking, motorcycle excursions, canoeing or kayaking in the Gorges du Tarn, swimming, fishing and idleness at the Cisba lake...
