Sticked to the Étang de Berre, 30 minutes from Salon-de-Provence and Aix-en-Provence, and 25 kilometres north of Marseille, Vitrolles is one of those typical villages of Provence. With its strategic location right next to Marseille airport, Vitrolles is the perfect place to stay to discover all the magnificence of the landscapes of Provence and the Pays d'Aix.

At the foot of its large rocky peak, called "Le Roucas", Vitrolles hides in its heart unsuspected treasures that you will absolutely have to discover during your stay. Known in the region for housing on its land a huge commercial area on which is notably a large Swedish furniture store, the town of Vitrolles has a splendid historical heart, called the "old village". In order to discover all its most beautiful faces, it is equipped with an educational trail, ideal to do with the family, so as not to miss anything of the village's heritage. So take the time to stroll through the shady streets of this old quarter, for a good immersion in what Provence in its purest form is like the one you see in old films: you will see superb medieval streets dotted with old houses with flowered windows painted in yellow, pink, green or ochre, and narrow cobbled streets decorated with arcades that climb tirelessly to the top of the village. Our advice? Climb the 96 steps carved into the rock that will take you to the top of the rock, where the Saracen Tower and the Notre-Dame-de-Vie chapel are enthroned. If the visit of these monuments is absolutely recommended, it is also for the breathtaking panoramas they offer of the Sainte-Victoire and the Etang de Berre below. Back down in the village, the church of Saint-Gérard is worth a visit, as are the Porte Notre-Dame, the Prehistoric Stone planted in the centre of the eponymous roundabout and the remains of the ancient ramparts that once surrounded the town. Pass through the Place de la République to discover its Vitrolles marble fountain surmounted by a bust of Marianne, take a break in the Christine Gounelle park for a break in the greenery to the sound of cicadas and birdsong, then go through the Avenue Camille Pelletan to discover a magnificent view of the pond.

Dynamic, Vitrolles is lively all year round. First of all by its weekly markets, but also by fairs, concerts, flea markets, flea markets, which will allow you to discover all the singularity of the know-how of Provence in decoration, culture, perfumes, pottery or gastronomy. The medieval festival in April is a must for a plunge back in time to the Middle Ages, when the jazz festival in July and the "Vitrolles Sun Festival" will respectively conquer the hearts of music lovers and lovers of the 7th art.

Finally, while staying in Vitrolles, you can take advantage of your stay to stop off in Aix-en-Provence, the city of painters such as Paul Cézanne, or in Marseille. After having tasted delicious fish-based dishes in front of the Old Port, the creeks and beaches of the Phocéenne city will be ideal to allow you to bubble under the Mediterranean sun, but also to swim, and practice a large number of water activities such as surfing, sailing, scuba diving, kitesurfing or sea walks. All of which will make your holiday in the South of France even more enjoyable!
