Ah, Normandy... Land of escape, it cultivates its legendary elegance through its old stones. Touques, an ancient maritime gateway in the Pays d'Auge, is located at the mouth of the Touques valley, which flows into the English Channel less than 3 kilometres from the town. A former very active port, the town of Touques nowadays boasts a charming heritage, which bears witness to its rich maritime and medieval past. A very old village, inhabited for more than 2000 years, it was protected by an imposing castle, former residence of the Dukes of Normandy, whose remains you can discover on the side of Bonneville-sur-Touques. If you take the time to walk around Touques, you will notice its charm: here, the Augeron architecture is very present, the streets of the town centre are dotted with a myriad of half-timbered houses painted in a rainbow of colours which give the town an enormous charm. In addition to these magnificent half-timbered houses, there are many splendid buildings that you can discover during your stay in Touques. What to see? The 12th century Saint-Thomas church, the Saint-Pierre church, the Halles and the town hall of the Lemercier square, the Louis XIII style salt granary, and the Admiralty building. Crossing the town centre of Touques, the Ouïes stream is an emblematic place of the town, studded with numerous wash houses, and is the perfect place for a bucolic stroll. You can't miss the art workshops near the Méautry stud farm, as well as the presbytery of the Saint-Pierre church, which also welcomes painters throughout the year (and offers painting courses during the school holidays). The Quartier des Arts around the Place Saint-Pierre, the squares and the restaurants of the town will complete your visit to Auvergne.
