Off the Charente-Maritime coast, the island of Oléron attracts many visitors who have come to discover its eight communes. This small sunny paradise in the Atlantic Ocean has a rich cultural and historical heritage, scattered throughout the island. In the north of the island, Brée-les-Bains lived for a long time on seafood products. Until 1953, this small peaceful seaside resort was part of Saint-Georges-D'oleron. Today, this village of 770 inhabitants has become a tourist destination with multiple atmospheres. Whether you are rather sporting or idleness holidays, Brée-les-Bains will have something to please you.

With a waterfront of more than 4 kilometres, the commune has privileged access to the ocean. Its golden beaches are ideal for a walk to the sound of the waves or for a family swim. From the first rays of spring, the island enjoys sunshine favourable to relaxation. But the Atlantic Ocean is also breathtaking waves : perfect conditions for water sports! Sailing, surfing or stand up paddle, the choice is yours. More unknown, this last discipline is however rather accessible. The stand up paddle is a cousin of surfing and is practiced on wider boards. The principle is simple: standing on the board, you propel yourself with a paddle. This discipline is practiced on the breaking waves but also in the form of a stroll, called 'cruising', on a calmer sea. Don't hesitate to throw yourself into the water to discover the joys of the stand up paddle with the help of Oleronese instructors !

Want to take off but not in a sporting mood ? Join Margot and Jean-François, the Voile Traditionnelle team, for a unique cruise on an exceptional boat. Lola of Skagen awaits you in Brée-les-Bains. This authentic sailing ship was born in the port of Skagen in Denmark in 1919. First a fishing boat, Lola was bought in 1980 by a Dutchman. He finally arrived in Oleron in 1994. After several years of restoration, it sails again for the pleasure of holidaymakers since 2000. Come and admire the resplendent sunsets off the island on this splendid period sailboat !

For centuries, sea salt has been one of the island's major activities. The climate of Oléron has always facilitated its production: it is one of the wettest areas in France. Near Brée-les-Bains, go to the salt marshes of Grains de Sel to know everything about this great tradition. During a humorous visit, the saunier will explain his job, from making coarse salt to harvesting flower of salt.
