A green resort in the heart of the Pays d'Aubazine, in Corrèze, Beynat surprises as much as it seduces. A land of tradition, history and escape located 20 kilometres east of Brive-la-Gaillarde, Beynat has something to captivate the hearts of holidaymakers looking for a stay in the great outdoors.
Far, far away from the big tourist destinations, Beynat offers a choice setting for travellers seeking peace and quiet and a change of scenery. Its village made of old stones and flower beds is a real invitation to stroll; perched at medium altitude, it shelters an old 12th century church known for its relics as well as its numerous statues, liturgical works, stained glass windows and splendid paintings. During your excursions in the heart of Beynat and its many hamlets, you will cross the path of numerous washhouses, fountains, crosses, a dolmen (the one of the Cabane aux Fées), wells and ovens (such as the one of Espagnagol), most of which are located around the streams that cross the village. Particularly suitable for hiking Beynat offers walkers a wide choice of hiking trails to discover all the beauty of the architectural heritage of the town, but also that of its incredible natural heritage. Follow the paths along the fragrant rows of chestnut trees, follow the path of the old tramway, and continue your excursion along the streams, which will tirelessly lead you to small refreshing waterfalls located near the Lake of Honey (such as the Tanaret waterfall). This lake of Honey is a must to see during your stay in Beynat: planted in the heart of a green forest, this 12-hectare lake has a whole arsenal of facilities for young and old. Labelled "handiplage", it has a beach on which there are many games for children, but also a swimming area, a water slide, a diving board, and you will also have the opportunity to canoe, kayak, pedal boat, stand-up paddle, rent boats or even fishing. The sports course around the lake is perfect for jogging aficionados, while the mini-golf course will delight the whole family.
Beynat being a land of traditions, it is impossible for you to miss its most popular: the chestnut. Symbol of the town, the chestnut is celebrated every year in October during the festival of the same name. By pushing the door of the restaurants of the commune, you will be able to taste it in cream, pie, cake, because here, gastronomy rhymes with greediness! You can also taste (in moderation) red or rosé local wines, straw wine, grilled freshwater fish, chanterelles and truffles, potato millassous, stuffed ceps, tourtous, farcidures, but also flaugnardes and other clafoutis for dessert... So many Corrèze specialities that will delight all your taste buds. But if there is another age-old tradition in Beynat, it is that of the shopping bags: these small bags made of braided straw have made the reputation of the village beyond the borders of the region. A local know-how that is perpetuated from generation to generation, it is showcased at farmers' markets held on Tuesday evenings during the summer.
