Want to go on holiday far, far away from the crowds of the big tourist destinations? Head for the small village of Calvisson, in the Occitanie region.
About twenty kilometres south-west of Nîmes, and less than half an hour from the beaches of the Mediterranean, Calvisson lies in the heart of the Gard department. A dynamic destination par excellence, Calvisson is a veritable Eden for all lovers of nature, hiking and cycling. There are many mountain bike circuits in the Pays de Sommières, such as the "Bois de Calvisson" circuit (12 kilometres), the "Murets" circuit (15 kilometres), the old railway stations circuit (26 kilometres) or the Manade circuit (20 kilometres). The Voie Verte Caveirac - Sommières, the V66, the circuit of the old village, or that of the springs and fountains will allow you to discover all the most beautiful faces of this small village full of charm.
In the village, some sites are worth a visit, such as the Maison Cavalier located in the upper part of the village, or the Maison Margot, built in a Louis XV style. The Town Hall, the neolithic graves of Cante-Perdrix, the old castles of Livières and Guillaume de Nogaret, the Gothic and Renaissance style mansions, but also the Baltard style Halles are among the most beautiful buildings in Calvisson. The town also has a large number of washhouses and fountains, such as the Pont washhouse (19th century), the Herboux washhouse, and the Florent washhouse, the largest in the town, which is fed by its own fountain and whose construction dates back to the 16th century.
But the main advantage of Calvisson is its location: situated 20 minutes from Nîmes, 30 minutes from Montpellier, 1 hour from Avignon and 45 minutes from Uzès, it will allow you to discover the main destinations of the department in just a few kilometres. The mythical arenas of Nîmes, the eternal City of the Popes in Avignon, Montpellier and its Place de la Comédie, or the famous (and oh so splendid) Pont du Gard are all emblematic sites of the South of France that you will be able to visit during your stay.
Finally, it is impossible not to take advantage of the proximity of Calvisson to the sunny beaches of the Mediterranean! La Grande-Motte and Le Grau-du-Roi are only about thirty minutes away from the village. Also, after having travelled a few kilometres, you will be able to take advantage of all the most beautiful beaches of the coast to bubble under the sun, perfect your tan, taste delicious local dishes, swim, sail in the sea or discover the joys of nautical activities: yoga-paddle, jet-ski, surfing, sailing, scuba diving, longe-côte, kitesurfing... Enough to fulfil all your desires!
