Known in particular for its production of olive oil from Provence, the town of Les Angles is located in the heart of the Gard department. Seductive and captivating, this charming town has by its history inspired many artists thanks to its grandiose panoramas of the region, its olive groves and its mountains. The "Sentier des Peintres" runs through the narrow streets of the upper part of the village, offering breathtaking panoramas over the city as well as over the Rhône and Avignon below. Thus, along the streets steeped in history, you will discover the places, monuments and landscapes that inspired many painters during the 20th century, from Marius Breuil to Jean Angladon, not forgetting Alfred Lesbros, Fernand Deveze or Herbert Klingst. Also take time to explore the old village: particularly conducive to strolls under the sun, it is home to a very pretty heritage like the Chapel of Saint-Estève, the castle of Pontmartin or its church Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption (early Gothic style of the 15th century): recognizable by its square tower, it is also worth a detour for its former cemetery now transformed into a green theatre. The Cosmos Park is also worth seeing: in the middle of the thick garrigue that hugs the smallest corners of the Angles, planets, satellites and small-scale stars will lead young and old through a unique playful trail to introduce the whole family to astronomy. Animated throughout the year, this splendid site also has the particularity of offering splendid viewpoints to its visitors, making it a must to see during your stay in Les Angles.
In no time at all, you will be able to get to Avignon, a terribly welcoming and cultural neighbouring city. The Cité des Papes is teeming with historical sites to see, places to visit and small restaurants to eat in. But what to see? We can only recommend you to discover its legendary Pont d'Avignon, the Palais des Papes, not forgetting its thick ramparts, its magnificent churches, its Halles, its Rocher des Doms and its banks along the Rhone River which are perfect for strolling.
