An internationally renowned tourist resort nestled between lake and mountains, Evian-les-Bains enjoys an exceptional natural environment in both summer and winter. With its thermal past and famous for its mineral water, Evian is located in the department of Haute-Savoie, just on the shores of the magnificent Lake Geneva. Backed by the foothills of the Chablais pre-Alps, this charming destination will conquer the hearts of fans of architecture and outdoor activities thanks to its beautiful buildings and its exceptional geographical location.
The best way to soak up Evian and its atmosphere is on foot : stroll through its charming old-fashioned streets, dotted with magnificent 19th and 20th century buildings, and discover the Palais Lumière, one of the city's most beautiful monuments. If today it has become a cultural centre, it was once the thermal baths of the city : you will recognize it thanks to its imposing, very elegant white façade and its magnificent metal and glass dome. Other emblematic places of the commune : the Griffon de la Source Cachat (most famous spring of Evian) and the buvette Cachat, current witnesses of the thermal past of Evian. Located on National Street, the latter is recognizable thanks to its Art Nouveau stained glass windows and its magnificent dome. Take the winding streets around Notre-Dame de l'Assomption Church and visit the Frankish Quarter, the oldest part of the city surrounded by ramparts. A little further on, the Villa Lumière is not to be missed : the former home of the Lumière family (the inventors of cinema), this dazzling Renaissance-style villa has been Evian's town hall since 1927. Its gilded salon remains intact, as does its bronze replica of Michelangelo's statue of the Thinker. Take the "petit métro évianais" (the funicular railway), visit the theatre, the casino and the Château d'Évian, the former residence of the Counts of Savoy, and finally make a refreshing stop by the lake in the Pré Curieux water garden.
The largest lake in Europe, Lake Geneva covers nearly 5830 square kilometres. The marina of Evian is one of the most modern on Lake Geneva : with its 800 berths and privileged location, it welcomes many boaters every year. For swimming desires, two choices are offered to you: you will be able to opt for the swimming pool located in front of the lake avenue of the General Dupas, and to benefit from the numerous installations this sound nautical center. A 50-metre Olympic pool, a 25-metre second pool, a slide and 160 metres as well as a children's playground, volleyball and table tennis courts are sure to please young and old alike. You can also swim in Lake Geneva, water-ski, pedal-boat, paddle, row boat cruises, rent canoes or kayaks for lake excursions, wakeboarding, wakesurfing, sailing or even diving. Surrounded by the massifs of the Memises and the Dent d'Oche, which culminate at an altitude of 2200 metres, Evian is also a delight for hikers and cyclists who, during the summer, take the passes and green pastures of these mountains by storm. You can also go rafting, torrent fishing, paragliding or canyoning. Finally, its proximity to Switzerland and the ski resorts of Chablais (like Bernex in particular) makes it an ideal destination to discover during winter, equipped with skis, snowshoes or sledges through the pine forests covered with their thick white coat.
Resolutely elegant and fashionable, Evian has two major assets adored by holidaymakers : its golf course and its casino. Its 18 hole course overlooking the lake and mountains is absolutely superb ! Its luxurious casino is adored by gambling enthusiasts with its 10 gaming tables and 250 machines. Its treatment centre also attracts many visitors each year, who come to relax and enjoy its spas, massages, scrubs, but also its hammams, pilates and yoga classes : the perfect combination for a well-deserved total relaxation.
