Saint-Lary-Soulan is a well-known ski resort of the Hautes-Pyrénées, French department near the Spanish border. It was created in the 1960s following the merger of two towns, Saint-Lary and Soulan. This union was put forward in order to join forces to expand the ski area and modernize the ski lifts. The town clearly stepped up to the challenge since Saint-Lary Soulan is now one of the main cities in the region that developed tourism and thermal activities. Its strong link between past and present gave it a unique charm. Its historic and religious heritage is made of a few treasures, as the Saint-Pierre de Soulan Church for instance, famous for its Romanesque tympanum or the Saint-Bertrand de Comminges Church, built during the 20th century. As for nature lovers, they can rest assured that the geographical location of the ski station, at the heart of the Aude valley, places them at the centre of outstanding natural resources.

Saint-Lary Soulan is above all a family destination. Indeed, the Rioumajou valley is ideal to get kids outdoors. Just a few miles away from the village, multiple activities take place in this natural site: donkey rides, fishing, workshops, etc. The National Park centre gives all the necessary information regarding the evolution of this magical environment. There, you'll learn how the locals have established a responsible use of the woods coming from the forest. As for the gourmets, they will surely remember the Noir de Bigorre pig, a breed from Vignec. A handful of enthusiasts have joined forces to bring back the flavours of this forgotten breed… But the diversity of the local gastronomy does not end there: discover as well in Saint-Lary Soulan the cheese of Pitou and the traditional "gâteau à la broche".

We loved the restaurant La Galette d'Or, the 2 times we had eaten the very delicious cakes, the boss very nice. It is necessary to reserve because the 1st time we could not eat it was full. We did a lot of activities: rafting, via ferrata, the giant tyrolienne, the suspended course, canyoning, canoeing, climbing... A vacation full of activities. St Lary is a small and very touristic village.

Due to the pandemic, we were not able to take advantage of all the activities and benefits that the site could have provided. Nevertheless, we had a great time as a family.

Unfortunately, there was a lack of snow down there. Superb walk to the Lac de l'Oule with chairlifts and a good meal at the restaurant "Le Refuge". To do! Very friendly lift staff, thank you! Saint Lary's is a very lively resort, it's nice. Take the opportunity to visit Arreau too (Thursday morning: superb market and good cheese). I'm sorry the Saint Lary's market is on Saturday... we were gone.

Saint Lary Soulan is very lively, you feel good, it's flat so you can ride a bike even with children, there are a lot of people, but everyone manages to live together, between bikes, pedestrians, cars, you feel that people are cool, and that's good, if you don't know, so go fast.
