A place of arrival and departure, with the two major stations in the East and North, the 10th arrondissement of Paris is also a district where it is pleasant to linger. To the south, on the border of the 3rd and 11th arrondissements, Place de la République, once quite austere, now has a more convivial and festive appearance. Still protected by the imposing Marianne of the monument of the Republic, the square now offers its visitors armchairs, chairs and tables to relax and even a water mirror for the greatest happiness of children. In the evening, it is adorned with pretty lights to guide night owls to nearby entertainment places : bars, restaurants, concert halls, theatres, discotheques... especially in the Rue du Faubourg-du-Temple.
Near the Place de la République, the Canal Saint-Martin is a very pleasant place to stroll. Built under Napoleon I to link the Seine to the Ourcq, it stretches over 4 kilometres and its locks, shady banks and pretty footbridges invite you to imagine the Paris of the 1930s. No surprise then to see, quay of Jemmapes, the facade of the hotel du Nord which plunges you a little more in this "Atmosphere" ! Next door, the Villemin garden offers the possibility to take a green break and discover a shared garden, managed by several associations. Very lively in the evening and on sunny days, the quay is lined with numerous small bistros with very welcoming terraces.
The surroundings of Rue du Faubourg-Saint-Denis make up another very lively district of the 10th arrondissement. This old Parisian street attracts many passers-by thanks to its cheap restaurants and exotic food shops, mainly African. By going up it, you will discover unusual passages like that of Prado with its Art Deco style, that of Désir, the Reilhac passage or the Brady passage called Little India because of the many Indian and Pakistani restaurants which it welcomes. At the top of Rue du Faubourg-Saint-Denis, between Gare de l'Est and Gare du Nord, find these pleasant curry smells in Little Jaffna. This little Tamil enclave offers a complete change of scenery with its spice shops, exotic fruits, colorful fabrics and Bollywood DVDs !
