Not far from Cap Gris-Nez, Ambleteuse takes place along the wonderful Opal Coast. A great classic for family vacations, the Opal Coast abounds in historical gems, wild or elegant beaches, and ideas for outings for young and old alike, which you can experience all year round according to your desires. So welcome to Ambleteuse!

Only 9 kilometres from Boulogne-sur-Mer, Ambleteuse is an old small fishing village, emblematic of this jagged coastline. Here, the traditional fishing houses nestled against the dunes rub shoulders in a harmonious blend with the imposing Belle Époque houses that flourished on the seafront during the 19th century. Rich in ancient history, the commune notably welcomed Julius Caesar's troops before the invasion of England in the year 54 BC. As a stronghold under Henry VII, it was adorned with an imposing military fort in the 17th century; Fort Mahon, as it is called, was built by Vauban during the 17th century. Also called "Fort Vauban", this emblematic monument of the seaside resort was built on the orders of Louis XIV, before being restored by Napoleon. Used by the Germans during the Second World War, this veritable jewel of local heritage (totally surrounded by the sea at high tide) is today adorned with horseshoe-shaped ramparts, a large artillery tower and exhibition rooms, and welcomes visitors throughout the year who are curious to discover its history and the panoramic views of the sea offered by its terraces. To discover all the heritage of Ambleteuse, take the time to visit the heart of the town and its seaside; a middle-class destination since the time of the sea bathing, the town of Ambleteuse is renowned for its unique architecture, made of large hotels, garage pediments decorated with Art Deco style frescoes, opulent 19th century houses painted white and charming seaside villas. Villa Maria Stella, Gay Cottage, Brise de Mai and Brise d'Avril, the villas Rayon Vert, Les Flots, Le Figuier and Le Bon Gîte are among the most famous in Ambleteuse, along with Villa Robinson, which is listed as a Historic Monument. The Museum of the Second World War, the church of Saint-Michel and the remains of an English fortress will complete your visit.

Housed at the mouth of the Slack river, Ambleteuse is renowned for its biodiversity, very rich which shelters a large number of plants of all kinds, including a particularly rare and fragrant local flora. So, to discover Ambleteuse as it should be, put on good trainers and set off to discover its thick dunes, the gardens of the Arche community and the Slack Bay. To do so, the resort has many hiking trails for pedestrians and mountain bikers, such as the "boucle des Royons" (23 kilometres), the "Mont de la Louve" trail (15 kilometres) or the 3-kilometre "Baie de la Slack" route along the estuary. On the sea side, Ambleteuse has two beaches, the north beach and the beach of Ambleteuse. If the first one is made of small gravel and rocks at the edge of the dunes, the second one, facing Fort Vauban, is home to a nautical centre from which you can try out a whole range of activities according to your desires. Canoeing, sea kayaking, paddle, longe-côte, sailing... Unless you're more of a "lazy and sunbathing" team member, in which case, volleyball games, swimming, naps in the sun and sandcastle competitions will be part of your stay in Ambleteuse.
