It is on the Opal Coast, just north of Boulogne-sur-Mer, that the charming seaside resort of Wimereux is located. Familiar, dynamic and elegant, this is the perfect place to put your suitcases if, like many holidaymakers passing through Wimereux, you are looking for tranquillity and fresh air.

In the Pas-de-Calais department, in the Hauts-de-France region, Wimereux has all the assets to attract more and more visitors. But what to see? To best prepare your trip, here are some ideas of visits to make to Wimereux. To begin with, there's nothing better than a little visit to its historic heart. You will discover the Church of the Immaculate Conception (1866), which is worth the detour for its particularly beautiful English organ, but also the Town Hall, or the Grand Hotel, which once housed English high society at the beginning of the 20th century. During your stay, it's impossible to miss the Rue Carnot: a huge shopping street, overflowing with shops, half-timbered chalets with elaborate balconies, bakeries, chocolate shops, restaurants and other small cafés where you can sit and enjoy the good weather while tasting local specialities ranging from delicious Flemish carbonnade to welsh, not forgetting potjevleesch, waterzoi, fried mussels and maroilles pie.

What's the best thing about coming to this charming seaside resort? The Belle Époque villas with their colourful facades are above all the symbol of the town's development in the past. These magnificent villas, most of which are located on the seafront, on the Wimereux seawall, are characteristic of this seaside resort on the Opal Coast. If most of them, painted in blue, yellow or pink, are located on the coast, you will also discover many of them while walking in its historical centre, hidden here and there (like the villa "La Mauricienne", the villas "Clair de Lune", "La Frégate" or "Desonis"). On the seafront, on the dike, you can't miss the dozens and dozens of blue and white painted cabins lined up next to each other. Emblematic of Wimereux, and located right at the foot of its most beautiful homes, these cute little shacks are the perfect postcard!

But Wimereux is also a rich historical heritage; in addition to having been marked by the Second World War, this seaside resort is also home to a prehistoric site, called "La Pointe aux Oies", reputed to have housed a large collection of Palaeolithic tools. In addition to being renowned among history fans, this magnificent place, protected and classified Natura 2000, is a perfect blend of the biodiversity that characterizes the Opal Coast. Here, thick dunes rub shoulders with cliffs, muscular waves and gusts of iodized air. If the site is popular with hikers, it is also popular with kitesurfers and seals, who enjoy their favourite activities below the promontory. Hikers, moreover, will enjoy unforgettable panoramas during their excursions by the sea. From the Fort to the Pointe de la Crèche, via the banks of the Wimereux River, the north dike, the Baie Saint-Jean Garden, the Pointe de la Rochette and the mouth of La Slack, a whole host of itineraries, sometimes on foot, on horseback or by bicycle, will be offered to you so that you don't lose a crumb of the Wimereusian landscapes.

Ah, and the beaches! How beautiful are the beaches of Wimereux. Long, mostly lined with dunes, they are really perfect for both sand castle contests (always won by dad) and to bubble under the sun, a good book in hand. Swimming is easy, and supervised (except on the North Beach where it is forbidden), and water sports aficionados will also find their account too, as the possibilities in the resort are so varied. Surfing, sand yachting, windsurfing, kitesurfing, but also paddle, longe-côte, canoe or catamaran will allow you to make the most of the Opal Coast's coastline.
