It is at the gateway to Spain, on the Mediterranean coast, that the seaside resort of Cerbère is located. Authentic Catalan village, Cerbère is the ideal destination for holidays in the sun thanks to its pleasant climate and its maximum sunshine, winter and summer.
Located on an exceptionally beautiful natural marine reserve, this small fishing port has several beaches and magnificent coves in which you will love to spend long afternoons, facing the turquoise sea. Made up of pebbles, the beach of Peyrefite is certainly the most beautiful beach of this type along the Mediterranean coast. Surrounded by green hills and Cerberian vineyards, it offers superb views of the rugged coastline of the Côte Vermeille. Wild and little frequented, the beach of Terrimbo is hidden in the middle of cliffs. If its setting is paradise, its beauty is deserved ! You will have to take several small steep paths to get there, but we guarantee you will not be disappointed, this beach of small pebbles is one of the quietest on the coast. Cerbère beach, right in the city centre, is the last beach before the Spanish border. Rather frequented and appreciated by summer visitors because of its location, it is still advisable to bring swimming shoes to go there because of the pebbles which line the seaside. For a total tranquility far from the crowded beaches, heading for the coves of Cerbère ! The coastline of the city is full of small coves, like the coves of Peyrefite : isolated and hidden from the beaches, these small paradises of tranquility will delight holidaymakers in search of peace and rest under the sun. As far as water sports are concerned, you can go palm trekking, paddle, kayaking or rent a small boat to visit the coastline, but the best thing to do is to initiate yourself to scuba diving since the place lends itself perfectly to it. Equipped with your fins, masks and snorkels, you will absolutely have to discover the underwater path of Cerbère. From the beach of Peyrefite, in clear water, you will swim along a marked path that will allow you to explore the rich sea beds of the town : aquatic vegetation, rocks, fish and molluscs will amaze young and old alike.
In Cerbère, settle the calm : on hillside, authentic and discreet, the city is really worth a look. Its bridge and its old Art-deco buildings give it a certain charm : the Belvedere (an old hotel) has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1987. Its stairs and the poetic, original look of a boat facing the sea attracted many travellers every year who once stayed there while waiting for their train. The station of Cerbère is also one of the places of interest of the city : it is notably known for its glass roof, its red bricks and its arcades, which were all conceived by Gustave Eiffel.
Between sea and mountains, Cerbère offers breathtaking landscapes : several hiking trails will lead you to wild views overlooking the sea, through vineyards and the hinterland with fragrant plants. Nature lovers can discover the hidden treasures of the Mediterranean coast through the Route des Cols (be careful, it climbs), the Sentier du littoral or via the Vallée des Cerfs. In addition to hiking, you can initiate yourself to paragliding, mountain biking and even long games of petanque in the shade of orange trees... Mediterranean atmosphere guaranteed !
Finally, since the change of scenery also involves culinary discoveries, taste the local flavours, directly inspired by Catalan cuisine : anchovies, botifarra, cargolade, escalivada, fideùa, boles of picolat, and Catalan shells... So many rich and generous dishes that will delight gourmets.

Restaurant "Chez Camille": does not look like much if you order its zarzuela (a kind of Spanish bouillabaisse) or its spicy poultry skewers (proposed on the menu or suggestions of the day): a real treat.
