Near Avignon and its famous festival, Vedène is located in the heart of the Comtat Venaissin plain, in the department of Vaucluse. Nestled at the foot of the Saint-Anne hill, Vedène is one of those authentic villages in which to stroll, to discover its beautiful and beautifully preserved heritage. In addition to its relaxing and exotic setting, Vedène enjoys a particularly ideal location to discover the splendours of Avignon and the surrounding villages.
Characteristic of these Provençal villages, the architecture of Vedène is absolutely picturesque and full of charm. With its pretty narrow streets, its 18th century parish church of Saint-Thomas, its Clock Tower (an 18th century belfry topped by a bell tower), its old washhouse, its Sainte-Anne chapel and its very beautiful 12th century castle, one can only affirm that Vedène has an absolutely superb heritage. The Jardin des Hirondelles and the Hirondelles district are perfect places for a walk to discover the beautiful corners of Vedène: after climbing the steps of the montée du Barri (which was once called "montée des remparts"), let yourself be guided through the narrow streets made of old stones, to enjoy beautiful views of the city and finally reach the Château des Seigneurs. Enter the courtyard through the large porch, to discover an incomparable view of the Monts de Vaucluse and Mont Ventoux. Built on a Roman oppidum, this castle dominates the valley from its east tower perched on a hillside 43 metres high. Go through the rue du Château, the smallest street in Vedène, and then discover the rue du Presbytère and the village church. Finally, from the rue de la Renardière, you can see a large wall with a large Romanesque arch door, nowadays remains of the ramparts that once surrounded the town.
The Flory hills, but also the Piécaud hill, a little outside the village, also deserve your full attention: if they are very bucolic places for walks, they are also well known for their wine-making activity. If you are a wine enthusiast, you should know that vineyards such as the Domaine des Pentelines and the Domaine du Grand Plantier offer visits to their cellars and tastings of their delicious Côtes du Rhône. Push a little further and you will find Lake Saint Montange: a favourite place for walkers and visitors, this lake is the meeting point for many fishermen who come here to fish for trout. Three kilometres away, still in the commune of Vedène, the golf course of Grand Avignon and its 18 holes arranged between bodies of water and greens will allow amateur and experienced golfers to perfect their swing on a practice always sunny. Finally Avignon being only a few steps away, it would be a shame to come to Vedène without going there! Legendary City of the Popes, Avignon is full of life, historical, romantic and surprising at the same time. Its Popes' Palace, its mythical Pont d'Avignon to which the song wants us all to dance in circles, its Garden of the Doms, its ramparts and its festival make it one of the cities not to be missed during your stay in Vedène !
