Facing the Atlantic Ocean, a few cables from the biggest seaside resorts of the Côte de Lumière, Saint-Vincent-sur-Jard is a perfect destination for family holidays. Its maritime pine and holm oak forests, its long typical Vendée beaches and its numerous activities will delight young and old.
Saint-Vincent-sur-Jard is teeming with hiking and walking trails, perfect for discovering every corner of the town. If there is one place you should visit during your stay, it is Georges Clémenceau's house. This white farmhouse with green shutters and a tiled roof, planted facing the Atlantic Ocean, borders the dune cord of the Longueville national forest. In the middle of the pines of the impressionist garden (which he himself drew with the help of his friend the painter Claude Monet), this fishermen's house attracts the eye. After 1919, it was the resort of this famous politician nicknamed "The Tiger", who loved to recharge his batteries facing the sea. Bought by the State after Clémenceau's death, the house is visited and attracts thousands of curious each year.
The coast of Saint-Vincent-sur-Jard is composed of three long beaches, ideal for family holidays. The Goulet beach, to the east, is only accessible at low tide. Several access ramps will allow you to launch small boats, and you can also practice water sports, such as surfing or kitesurfing. Along the old house of Georges Clémenceau, there is a small beach : bordered by a long promenade, the beach Clémenceau is ideal for fishing on foot, but also for family picnics facing the sea. The beach of Belestat is wilder than the two previous ones : its dunes and its pleasant environment make it a place of relaxation particularly appreciated by the holidaymakers in search of tranquility. At sunset, sit on the sand, feet in the surf, to enjoy the calm and beauty of this beach.
Sports activities include karting, sailing, sailing, sea kayaking and jet-skiing on most of the beaches of Saint-Vincent-sur-Jard. Near the Goulet beach there are two tennis courts and a large shaded petanque court, perfect for family games. Also enjoy horse or pony rides along the Vendée coast : original outings that will put stars in the eyes of the little ones. For their part, golf fans will inevitably go to Talmont Saint-Hilaire, to tread the greens of the Gulf of "Port Bourgenay". During your excursion in this neighbouring town, take the opportunity to visit the castle of Talmont, to experience an immersion in the heart of the Middle Ages : one thing is certain : medieval festivals and night shows will please young and old alike.
While staying in Saint-Vincent-sur-Jard, the whole Vendée coast is open to you : As La Tranche-sur-Mer is only 12 kilometres away and Château d'Olonne is 18 kilometres away, it is easy to visit the most popular seaside resorts on the Côte de Lumière, famous for its sunshine comparable to that of the Basque coast. The visit of the Marais Poitevin (6 kilometres away) as well as the salt marshes and oyster farming parks of La Guittière (11 kilometres away) is also recommended for all nature lovers.
Finally, what could be better for this family holiday than to sit down together for a good meal ? There are many Vendée specialities: while the adults will taste the "Troussepinette" (a local aperitif, a tasty blend of brandy and wine), the children will enjoy the "gâche", the famous gourmet Vendée brioche. Take advantage of this seaside town to taste fish, mussels and oysters from La Guittière, all accompanied by mogettes and foie gras : a real treat !
