In the province of Lucca, in Tuscany, is the beautiful village of Camaiore. Halfway between the Apuan Alps and the Mediterranean Sea, Camaiore offers a dream setting for a dynamic holiday. With its ancient treasures, its 4 kilometres of fine sand bordered by sparkling water, its region dotted with magnificent medieval villages and its incomparable panoramas of the sea, Camaiore is the ideal place to pack your bags and discover beautiful parts of Italy.
Camaiore, like most Tuscan cities, has a long history and a large number of architectural treasures. This is mainly due to its strategic geographical location: once located on the pilgrimage route linking Roma to France in the Middle Ages, Camaiore quickly developed, attracting a large number of visitors. In the centre of the old town of Camaiore, the collegiate church of Santa Maria Assunta, characterised by its bell tower and its astonishing asymmetrical facade, is one of the main buildings of the village. Built between 1278 and 1350, this church is worth a visit just for the beauty of the immense rose window that adorns its façade and the rich 16th century decorations that line its rooms. Not far from there, the "Museo di Arte Sacra" is also worth a visit: home to magnificent collections of jewellery, paintings, sculptures and precious clothing, this museum also has superb wooden statues and tapestries, including a Flemish work from 1516 representing religious scenes (the Passion and the Annunciation). The city centre is dotted with historic palaces, such as the Massoni de Tores Palace (16th century), the municipal palace and its stepped facades, or the "Palazzo di Vicario", the Olivio Theatre (in Versila, Camaiore municipality) and the Palazzi Papini, at the end of Route XX in Setiembre. Camaiore also has a good number of castles, most of which are unfortunately in ruins, scattered over its many hamlets: during your walks, you will be able to cross paths with Rotaio Castle on the Francigena road, Gombitelli Castle, Albiano Castle, or Peralla Castle in Pievre di Camaiore. If you like hiking and family excursions, we recommend visiting the cities of Casoli (9 kilometres away), Monteggiori (4 kilometres away) and Gombitelli (13 kilometres away), medieval villages perched absolutely magnificent, typical of the Tuscan landscapes and as if frozen in time for hundreds of years.
Spread over 4 kilometres along clear water, Lido di Camaiore is the seaside resort of the village of Camaiore. Very popular with holidaymakers, it is one of the most famous on the Versilian coast and throughout Italy thanks to its long sandy beach. Its promenade (Viale Europa) is very popular because of its many shops, which will allow you to take a shopping break between two swimming sessions. Lined with palm trees and flowers, it is especially frequented by parents and children who come to rollerblade there, or to enjoy an ice cream at sunset. In the evening, this walk attracts many visitors looking for a nice little bar to enjoy an aperitif or a good restaurant with a view for dinner. In the middle of the Viale Europa, do not pass by the "Pontile Bellavista", a jetty that offers a 360° panorama of the blue of the Mediterranean: if the viewpoint is worth it during the day, it is especially at sunset that the onlookers crowd in to observe the magnificent colours of the sky. For the bike rides, you will have to go on the Viale Pistelli just opposite. Along its seaside, you will find many "bagnos" and "beach clubs", perfect for sipping a cocktail in the shade of a parasol. Children will enjoy the Luna Park in Camaiore, as well as the Parco Pitagora, a theme park where young and old can enjoy playgrounds, basketball and football fields, as well as recreational activities for all. As for water sports, Lido di Camaiore has a number of clubs where you can practice a whole range of sports according to your desires: jet-skiing, flyboarding, snorkelling, boat trips, diving, sailing and surfing will delight the whole family.
