Looking for a holiday under the sign of the sun, in an exotic and enchanting place ? Direction Altea, a beautiful village on the Costa Blanca, Spain. Protected by the Sierra Bernia massif to the north, Atlea enjoys a particularly pleasant microclimate guaranteeing mild temperatures and maximum sunshine throughout the year, all this, only 8 kilometres from Benidorm and 50 kilometres from Alicante.
Perched on a hill overlooking the sea, the city has enough to seduce holidaymakers who would choose to venture there. Start your visit at the highest point of the village: the Church of Our Lady of Consolation (Virgen del Consuelo Church). Its two domes set with blue sapphire tiles stand out above all in this white city. Stop for a few moments on the church square, and head towards its belvedere : the place is perfect to admire the panorama on the Mediterranean. The old town of Altea is certainly one of the most beautiful in the Valencian region. Typical of the Costa Blanca, its whitewashed and beautifully flowered houses seem to emerge straight from a postcard landscape. Stroll through its small streets in steps, dotted with bougainvilleas, orange trees and numerous art galleries : Altea is the landmark of artists and craftsmen. Below the hill, take time to stroll in the fishermen's quarter, located not far from the sea.
On the beach side, Altea extends along more than 8 kilometres of coastline. Its rugged coastline collects beaches of pebbles and fine sand, sumptuous coves and impressive cliffs. Among many others, Playa del Mascarat, its pebbles and its superb seabed will delight diving enthusiasts. The long beach of Cap Negret, at the mouth of the Algar River, is also a beach of gravel, bordered by clear waters and with pedalos and hammocks in which you can slip for a relaxing session under the Spanish sun. Just next door, the beach of La Roda, renowned for the quality of its bathing water, extends as far as the fishing port of Altea. Its seafront lined with shops, glaciers and its two nautical centres make it an ideal place for families and marine sports fans. To the north of Altea, not far from the cliffs, are several small coves which are rather difficult to access but which deserve to be discovered. The coves of La Olla, La Barreta and Soio will be ideal to enjoy the calm in an idyllic setting, and the cove of La Solsida will be more to the taste of naturist lovers. Water sports lovers can enjoy their favourite activities on the Greenwich Marina side, from outboard to jet ski, kayak and catamaran. A few kilometres further north, inland, don't miss the Algar Falls: in this magical place, bask under the waterfalls, and enjoy a few fathoms in the river in the heart of a wild and enchanting place.
After long hours of strolling or idleness, take a walk in one of the many tapas bars in the city, enjoy a cocktail by the sea, or a dinner with your feet on the sand... "La Capella" and its Mediterranean cuisine, "El Oustau" and its refined flavours, "El Cranc", its seafood and grilled fish, or "D'Els Artistes" and its view overlooking the sea : you'll have plenty of choice to enjoy the local flavours.
Finally, at night, Altea adorns itself with its most beautiful attire: let yourself be rocked by the suave and relaxed atmosphere of the city, which lives to the rhythm of the guitars that invade its streets. Jazz, flamenco, or house music, in Altea, all music is beautiful to party until the end of the night.
