Gracia's neighborhood inspires by its bohemian and nonchalant atmosphere. This popular district, where life resembles that of an autonomous village, with its public squares, literary cafés and improvised concerts in the street, was attached to the city of Barcelona in 1897 following the extension of the Old City. Nevertheless, it has managed to keep its artists' studios as well as its creators' studios. The shops are of vintage and alternative chic style but cohabit harmoniously with the antique shops. Dive into this relaxed atmosphere, populated by bookshops, art galleries, old bakeries, grocery stores, small cafés,... you will be delighted !

Like every district of Barcelona, Gracia is full of architectural buildings. To name but a few : the "Casa Fuster", a castle transformed into a 5* hotel which is a model of modernist architecture located at the beginning of Grand de Gracia Street and the "Casa Viçens", a private house which is the first work of Antonio Gaudi. It will dazzle you with its originality and colourful facades (mainly composed of mosaics).

We also advise you to spend an afternoon in the streets of Gracia and enjoy the many public squares such as : the Plaça de Rius i Taulet and its clock-campanile ; Plaça de la Virreina and its church (including the underground chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, intimate and relaxing) ; Plaça del Sol, bounded by its cafés and bars, which is the meeting point for young people in summer. Next to this square, let yourself be carried to the famous "Mercat de la Libertat" market. Here the scents intermingle as well as the variety of local products on offer : fruit and vegetables, meat and fish. A nice modernist market designed by Pascal Tintorer, Gaudi's assistant. The most famous attraction in the Gracia district is certainly the Parc Guell. Located on the mountain del Carmel, it is strongly advised to reserve your places before going there. An atmosphere of freedom and a magnificent view of the city of Barcelona stretching to the beach of Barceloneta will delight young and old alike.

If you are present in Barcelona around mid-August, the event not to be missed under any pretext is the Festa Major de Gracia. For five days, the locals compete in originality to decorate the streets of their beloved neighbourhood. The themes are free and sometimes extravagant. In the evening, it is possible to have a drink at one of the refreshments and dance to all the styles of music proposed by the groups or DJs who settle on stage in the middle of the decorated streets.

For families with 3 children for example, it is better to take individual transport tickets for a week, it is more advantageous.
