The Montjuic district is one of the most diverse districts in Barcelona. Depending on your walks and your desires, you can go shopping at the Las Arenas shopping centre, admire the whole of Plaça Espana, visit the various museums, have a picnic in the park area, soak up the Catalan tradition in the Spanish Poble or take the funicular to the Montjuic hill.

Las Arenas, as its name suggests, is the ancient arena of Barcelona. In Hispano-Arabic style, this monumental building, built in 1900 with nearly 3 million bricks was converted into a shopping centre in 2001. Today, on six floors, it is possible to shop there thanks to its 115 shops, watch the latest movie releases, watch a flamenco show or have lunch on the roof with a 360° view. For music lovers : don't miss a visit to the Rock Museum (unique in its kind !) where you can admire John Lennon's guitar and play rockstars in front of a virtual audience.

The Plaça Espana is a meeting point for the various arteries of the city, including Gran via de les Corts Catalanes and Avenida del Para-lel, and it houses several metro and bus stations. There are many remains of the Barcelona International Exhibition of 1929 which had as its themes : Spanish industry, sport and art. The layout, elaborated on a slope, allows the visitor to gradually discover the numerous architectural decorations and performances. At the beginning of this ascent, the visitor will not miss the fountains and the two majestic Venetian towers, inspired by the bell tower of San Marco in Venice and which materialized the beginning of the Universal Exhibition.

On your way, you can discover many cultural and social places, such as the Congress Palace, the CaixaForum Art Gallery, the Olympic Ring (recalling that Barcelona organized the 1992 Olympic Games), the National Art Museum of Catalonia, which is known in particular to exhibit a multitude of remains from the Romanesque period, the ethnological museum, the exhibition park which hosts throughout the year several events. The San Jordi Palau, which can accommodate 18,000 spectators, was built for the Olympic Games and remains today the main venue for sporting events and major concerts. The Montjuic park is composed of wooded gardens and large expanses of grass, flowers, arbours, fountains and even a cactus garden... perfect for a relaxing moment with the family (after climbing the steps) or a more sporting moment during a jog.

Live the Catalan experience 100% by going to Spanish Poble ! This Spanish village, built on 20000 m² reproduces a traditional village. Around the main square of the village are the facades with balcony and flowers. In an often medieval atmosphere, enjoy the various craft markets, folk dances and other shows such as falconry demonstrations, fire shows and glass blowers, organized several times a year. Note that you can enjoy a jazz or electro concert, open-air cinema screenings and various activities during the Mercé festival.

For surrealist art lovers (paintings, drawings, sculptures) : a visit to the Miro Foundation is a must! It is here that the controversial works of this avant-garde artist are exhibited, who himself said : "The painting must be fruitful. It must give birth to a world". Another visit not to be missed (but for history lovers this time) : the castle of Montjuic. Its first fortification was erected in 1640, following the revolts of the citizens of Barcelona. It has been in turn : prison, military museum and is currently being moved to become an international center of peace. There are two lookouts overlooking the city of Barcelona : the Alcalde and del Migdia lookouts. The view over the sea and Tibidado is magnificent and access is possible via the famous cable car.
