The Spanish archipelago of the Balearic Islands is a real wonder. Alcúdia is a pretty little Iberian town located in the north-east of the island of Mallorca, in the center of a mosaic of bays, vegetable gardens and mountainous areas.
One enters the Hispanic city either by the door of Xara or that of Palma. These are the vestiges of the old medieval walls, not to be confused with the bastion of Sant Ferran, which belongs to the fortress built in the Renaissance. It is this period of history that gives itself the most to see in the streets of Alcúdia. At every street corner, a window framing, a stained glass window or a remarkable facade attracts our attention. Religious heritage is also part of the city's main attractions, including the churches of Santa Ana and Sant Jaume, the Chapel of Sant Crist and the Sanctuary of the Mare de Déu de la Victória.
Close to the seaside resort was opened, in the 80's, an ornithological observation site. More than 200 species of birds are protected by the trainers and offer a spectacle impossible to circumvent. It is also from the port of Alcúdia that the boat trips to Ciutadella de Menorca leave.
The ancient capital of Minorca is a point of convergence for visitors who come to admire the cathedral built on the site of the great Arab mosque. This architectural jewel of Catalan Gothic style has no fewer than six chapels. The latter are as many cases for the countless sculptures and other altarpieces of the 18th century. Facing the cathedral is the Olives palace, which pompously puts forth its neoclassical façade.
Back in Alcúdia, the day ends with a walk on the Cap des Pinar, with its gravel beaches bathed by turquoise waters that make up an idyllic picture.
