In the heart of the Costa Dorada, Ametlla de Mar is a Catalan town with undeniable charm. Strongly linked to the sea, fishing has long been the driving economic sector of the city. Today, tourism has added to maritime activity and has greatly influenced the development of the municipality.
The location of Ametlla de Mar has placed it at the heart of many historical events, some of which have left their mark on the city. Strategic point for an unobstructed view of the sea, its coasts have known several imposing defense constructions. Nowadays, the Castle of Sant Jordi d'Alfama, a fortress built in 1732, is a survivor of these turbulent centuries of history. Perched on the cliffs, its impressive architecture blends with the rocky landscapes of the seaside, offering a unique panorama of nature and history.
The maritime wealth of the city is a strong heritage widely exploited by the tourist industry. Most of the activities are oriented towards the sea and its many facets. The Center for the Interpretation of Fishing reconstructs the evolution of the fishery at Ametlla de Mar until its post-war rise, when it became one of the most important ports in Catalonia. The marinas now permit recreational fishing and various water sports for the visitors and visitors.
It is also in Ametlla de Mar that one can experience an underwater experience of the most unusual.
