Overlooking the Rhône Valley from the canton of Valais, Switzerland, Haute-Nendaz is one of the villages in the commune of Nendaz. Nestled in the heart of the Valais Alps, Haute-Nendaz is located at an altitude of 1400 metres in a preserved and family cocoon. Authentic in its atmosphere and architecture, it is also very dynamic and will allow you to practice many sporting activities in both winter and summer thanks to its privileged location at the gates of the large "4 Vallées" ski area.
If you opt for a holiday in Haute-Nendaz during the winter, then you can only be won over by the unspoilt beauty of this small mountain village. From its sunny plateau perched between 1300 and 1400 metres above sea level, halfway between Zermatt and Chamonix, Haute-Nendaz has enough to fill the eyes of young and old with stars thanks to its magnificent panoramas over the Vaud, Bernese and Valais Alps. If the picturesque hamlet is worth a visit for its postcard decor and its reassuring atmosphere, it is all the more appreciated by families for its connection to the "4 Vallées" ski area. With more than 420 kilometres of ski slopes spread out between 1400 and 3300 metres above sea level, the "4 Valleys" certainly have something to satisfy all the desires of winter sports enthusiasts. It is one of the largest ski areas in Europe: you will find 342 downhill ski slopes for 92 lifts, but also a giant snowpark of nearly 120,000 square metres in the La Chaux area, recreational slopes and a woodpark on the Jean-Pierre slope in the Nendaz area. Whether you are an expert skier or a novice, you will inevitably find your happiness there. On the freeride side, the resort has "Nendaz Freetracks", 6 marked and unpaved routes adapted to all levels that will allow lovers to enjoy beautiful walks through the mountains: we particularly recommend the "Plan-du-Fou" area, the Col des Mines and the Vallon d'Arbi. For the more sporty, the mythical "Mont-Fort - Gentianes-Tortin" trail (accessible by the Siviez sector) is really worth a visit! With its steep slope and impressive views from Mont-Fort (3300 metres), it is one of the most beautiful in the whole estate. The Tracouet snow garden will delight the youngest children who will discover the joys of skiing via treadmills and a snowtubing area specially dedicated to learning new snow sports. Although the resort is not renowned for its Nordic activities, it still has a beautiful cross-country skiing area on the Haute-Nendaz side, with 10 kilometres of trails through the woods.
You don't like skiing? No problem: the resort has 100 kilometres of marked trails for walkers and 6 trails for snowshoe enthusiasts, including along the Bisse du Mileu, Bleusy and the "Pra da Dzeu". You can also opt for an electric snowmobile ride, a toboggan run on the 3 km long Tortin track, a hockey game, ice skating to the sound of disco music, or a paragliding flight over the resort for the more adventurous.
On sunny days, Haute-Nendaz is very popular with hikers and mountain bikers; you will quickly discover during your excursions that the resort is crossed by 8 bisses, small irrigation canals that are used to collect water from the glaciers to transport it to the heart of the meadows. In addition to their usefulness, these bisses are particularly appreciated by walkers who can walk along them to discover the most beautiful view points that Haute-Nendaz, Nendaz and the "4 Vallées" domain have to offer thanks to 98 kilometres of trails spread between 800 and 2200 metres. We warmly recommend the "Balavaud Giants" hike along the bisse on the heights of Nendaz, renowned for its breathtaking landscapes. Several thematic trails criss-cross the surroundings to allow everyone to discover the uniqueness of the Haute-Nendaz landscape, such as the "Chemin des Sculptures", the "Sentier des Pives", the "Sentier des Pives", the "Sentier Panoramique", the "Voie des Erables" or the "Sentier Pieds nus". You can also choose between thrilling activities such as via ferrata or via corda, three of which are available in the Nendaz sector (we particularly recommend via corda Nendaz - Mont-Fort, which combines hiking, mountaineering and climbing with magnificent landscapes). On the mountain bike side, Haute-Nendaz is also famous for its many hiking trails, some of which are sporting and some of which are fun: don't miss the routes leading to the superb turquoise lake of Cleuson, the Tracouet descent along the shores of Lac Noir, the trails leading to Isérables, the La Faraz route through the woods or the famous Mont-Fort tour, from which the sunrise is of incomparable beauty from the first days of spring.
Finally, note that Nendaz is the capital of the Cor des Alpes: every summer, the town hosts the International Festival of Cor des Alpes, an original and traditional event not to be missed under any circumstances if you are visiting Haute-Nendaz during this period!
