Location
Flassans-sur-Issole is a commune in the Var department of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, 14 km east of Brignoles. Its territory covers 43 km² and is bordered to the north by the A8 freeway. It is crossed by the Issole, a tributary of the Caramy and sub-tributary of the Argens. Archeological digs have revealed a human presence as far back as prehistoric times. Subsequently, a major Roman villa was built here during Antiquity.
In the early Middle Ages, a feudal fortress was erected, around which the present-day "old village" grew. The castle was enlarged in the 14th century and acted as a Catholic stronghold during the Wars of Religion, leading to its dismantling by Protestant troops.
From this past, Flassans-sur-Issole has retained a charming Provencal village feel, as well as a rich heritage. The village is surrounded by valleys of farmland, vineyards and woodland.
With around 3,500 inhabitants, Flassans-sur-Issole offers a wide range of leisure activities focusing on nature, sport and culture, making it a pleasant stopover in the heart of the Var before heading to the coast.
