A little history:
Les Chartrons owes its name to the Chartreux monks who settled here in 1377. Centered around the church of Saint-Louis, this northern district of the city has a history inextricably linked to that of the merchants who prospered there. Arriving in the 17th century from Flanders, Holland, England and Germany, the wealthy middlemen laid their hands on numerous wine estates. Benefiting from this flourishing trade, a succession of dynasties established the wine trade in the Chartrons district. The 18th century saw Bordeaux's wine trade become a tradition, placing the port of the moon at the forefront of French docks.
