Crossed from one side to the other by the Cèze, Bagnols-sur-Cèze enjoys peaceful days just a few steps from the Gard and its meanders. Bagnols-sur-Cèze is a small town in the Gard region, on the border with the Vaucluse, between the Cévennes and Provence. It is the ideal place to put down your bags for a quiet holiday. Between history and nature, culture and gastronomy, the capital of the Gard rhodanien never ceases to make hearts beat faster.
Not far from Avignon, Montpellier, Nîmes and Montélimar, Bagnols-sur-Cèze, in the Occitanie region, is definitely a town where life is good. Caressed by the mildness of a welcoming Mediterranean climate, the Languedoc commune reveals to its visitors a historic town studded with old houses painted in warm tones, topped with orange tiles. It is the rich past of Bagnols that has, over the centuries, forged this impressive, rich historical heritage, which fascinates lovers of history and old stones. As you stroll through the narrow streets of the village, you will discover the old market square, but also the Clock Tower, a vestige of the medieval era, as well as a number of princely hotels from the 16th and 17th centuries (the Madier Hotel, the Luynes Hotel...). The remains of its ancient ramparts, but also its washhouses, fountains, arcades, emblematic squares such as the Place des Pénitents and the Place Mallet, not forgetting its small shady courtyards and its markets, will allow you to immerse yourself in the heart of local history and traditions. After visiting the Romanesque Saint-Jean-Baptiste church, stop off at the Mont-Cotton open-air theatre, the Arthur Rimbaud Park, the Albert-André painting museum (which houses Matisse, Picasso, Renoir, Rodin, Paul Signac, etc.) or the Léon-Alègre archaeological museum to make sure you don't miss out on any of the things that make Bagnols-sur-Cèze a renowned cultural destination.
Dynamic, Bagnols-sur-Cèze hosts many events throughout the year: in addition to its Provencal market, the city organizes several fairs, but also local festivals, a patron saint festival in August, a book festival, another around the flavors of the soil, theatrical walks, and many folklore and musical events in the summer. But during the summer, the star of Bagnols-sur-Cèze is its beach! The Plage de Carmignan, that's its name, is set up along the Cèze river to allow you to enjoy some nice moments of idleness under the sun, and some refreshing moments in the river. Within a radius of about sixty kilometers, you can discover on foot, by bike or by car a lot of majestic sites which make the reputation of the region, like the famous Gorges de l'Ardèche known for hiking and white water activities, but also the Pont-du-Gard, Orange and its ancient theatre, Avignon and its Palace of the Popes, Nîmes, Arles and their arenas, without forgetting the Mont Ventoux and the Cèze Valley, all of which will be the icing on the cake of this stay in Bagnols-sur-Cèze.
