The village of Èze is 17 kilometres from Nice. A perfect postcard of everything you love about Provence, this perched village is certainly one of the most beautiful on the French Riviera.
Combining with brio the charm of the Riviera and the authenticity of Provence, Èze is a real treasure. A small preserved jewel, right between Monaco and Nice, the village spreads out on three ledges to offer to discover three distinct districts: Èze-Village, Èze-Corniche, and Èze Bord de Mer. After marvelling at the Moyenne Corniche which links Nice to Roquebrune-Cap-Martin via Beausoleil, Cap-d'Ail and Èze through the La Revère Natural Park, the visitor reaches the heart of the village through a large fortified gate built during the 14th century. Then spreads out before your eyes a vast labyrinth of intertwined alleys perched at an altitude of 400 metres overlooking the Mediterranean, absolutely splendid alleys where, like most of the old medieval villages of Provence, old houses, winding stone staircases, poetic arcades and small vaulted passages are legion. A centuries-old cobbled town with an unusual charm, it has seen galleries and other local artists' studios blossom over the years, comfortably installed in what were once old stables and rehabilitated sheepfolds. The Galimard soap factories and Fragonard perfumeries bring a touch of refinement to this comfortable eagle's nest village. Although the town was surrounded by heavy ramparts in the Middle Ages, today it only retains a few traces of them, such as its fortified gate and its ancient alleys. Worth seeing? The baroque church of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption for its astonishing trompe-l'oeil, and the exotic garden! Perched at the very top of the village, in place of the ancient ramparts and the ruins of the castle, this absolutely magnificent botanical garden fascinates by the many varieties of plants it shelters. Poetic cacti, aloes, succulents and tropical plants flourish here under a generous sun. After enjoying the breathtaking and unforgettable view of the Mediterranean (even more impressive from the Col d'Èze and the Fort de la Revère), head for Èze on the sea side!
To go down to the Mediterranean Sea, there is nothing like taking the 2.1 kilometre-long Chemin de Nietzsche; it will take you in 45 minutes to the beaches, with the vegetation, rocks and superb views of the bays below to Saint-Tropez as your companions on the way. Èze Bord de Mer is first and foremost a chic district, with Belle Époque style houses decorated with poetic wisteria and brightly coloured bougainvilleas. Stroll around Cap Roux, take a break on the quays of Port Silva Maris, before putting your towel down on the beach side of the Bay. Stroll along the tip of Cabuel, marvel at the creeks of Cap Estel, before taking a well-deserved break on the sand of Saint-Laurent beach. In addition to lazing around and swimming, you can enjoy a wide range of water activities, from towed buoys to jet skiing, not to mention paddling, sailing, sea outings, surfing, kitesurfing and sea kayaking, scuba diving, yachting towards Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Cap-d'Ail, or Monaco...
