Gruissan is a village in the Aude in the Languedoc-Roussillon-Midi-Pyrénées region. Dominated by the Tower Barbarossa, it is located from a distance. This 13th-century monument is the culmination of a set of ruins that bear witness to the presence of a fortress in the past.
The old port of Gruissan is a place of passage. Holidaymakers, water sports enthusiasts and tourist guides are often found at the harbor master's office, a true nerve center of the small marina.
Behind, we spot the beaches. The Chalets beach, in particular, presents itself in an unusual light with its chalets built on stilts that welcome, throughout the summer, the beach bars. You can reach it on foot or by bike, taking the cycle path along the canal. In the extension of the beach of Mateille is the beach of Ayguades. It is the perfect place to take a stroll along the sea at nightfall.
Finally, this panorama would not be complete without evoking the beach of the Old New, also called "beach of salins". This is the westernmost beach of Gruissan. Throughout time, it has retained its wild character and its dunes are suitable for children's games.
Around Gruissan, the possibilities are multiple. On the sea side, it is permissible to improvise a stroll at sea aboard one of the boats available for rent in the marina. On the land side, it is obviously the Cathar castles that are the object of all attention.
The city of Carcassonne, the medieval village of Villerouge Termenès or the vineyards of the Corbières and the Clape are magic places where one can perceive the richness of the local heritage. Last stage, the Peyrepertuse castle perched atop a limestone ridge and enjoying a strategic position to admire the whole valley.

Very nice town. Rent a boat without a licence: it's super nice. Very good restaurants for cheap. Visit the Sigean Reserve (just a few steps away).

In the city centre, we ate very well with "Yum" and "L and L". The "Candy Ice" offers fabulous cocktails and the welcome is very friendly. We didn't go to the "Nibar" next door but the atmosphere is very dynamic every night. It's like a student night out. Gab's tapas are excellent although a little expensive and we were disappointed by the behavior of a waitress on our last visit.

A superb boat trip along the beaches towards Valras and the houses on stilts now called chalets to admire a sunset to the west and a full moon to the south accompanied by Rhythm and Blues songs from Jef to Gibson and dolphins to the port... unforgettable honeymoon.
