Kingdom of sports lovers and lovers of the sea, Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré makes the happiness of many holidaymakers every year. With its magnificent beaches, woods, hiking trails and ideal location to visit the splendid Ile de Ré, Bois-Plage is one of the leading destinations for holidays by the sea, with family or friends.
Located in the centre of the island, between forest and ocean, Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré is one of the oldest seaside resorts on Ile de Ré. Worshipped by families because of its flowery and green setting, this small town of Charente-Maritime allows multiple walks, by foot, by bike or by sea, in order to discover all the beauty of the Ile de Ré. Its beaches first of all, are the scene of many parentheses of idleness under the sun. Renowned for its beautiful stretches of fine sand, Bois-Plage has 6 kilometres of beaches labelled Pavillon Bleu. The huge "Gollandières Beach" will please families thanks to its children's club and picnic area, but also lovers of water sports : you can windsurf, surf, sail or even bodyboard with a beautiful unobstructed view of the Island of Oléron. The busiest beach in Bois-Plage-en-Ré, the "Gros-Jonc" beach conquers the hearts of many families who come to enjoy its calm waters, perfect for swimming. It also houses nautical clubs as well as two tiralos, which will allow people with reduced mobility to easily access the beach.
Behind the dunes, the beaches of the commune hide vast wooded areas made of maritime pines and oaks, suitable for long hikes, on foot, on horseback or by bicycle. Its varied itineraries will take you throughout the island, to meet its most beautiful treasures, its small picturesque villages, its fauna and flora. The 10 km long "Peu des Aumonts" hike is one of the most popular in the commune : through the dunes and woods, you will reach the highest point on the Ile de Ré, 19 metres high. In all, more than 100 kilometres of bike paths connect the villages of the Island, from La Flotte to Sainte-Martin, via La Couarde, Marie-La-Noue and Bois-Plage. From inland or via coastal paths, through fields, forests and beaches, through wild landscapes overlooking salt marshes at sunset, bird sanctuaries and the Whale Lighthouse, these excursions will allow you to escape and discover at the same time multiple breathtaking panoramas. Be careful with the "clashes" : during the summer, these bike paths are very busy, take the time to check that the bell of your bike works before leaving !
Finally as regards heritage, if the commune owned 13 mills in the last century, it now houses only one in good condition on its territory. Built in 1674, the Moulin de Bellère is the only one to have kept its wings and to have been restored several times. Also, during your bike rides, you will certainly cross the road of ruins of old mills, of which only a part of the structure remains today. Continue your peregrinations in the Bois-Plage to discover its Malakoff Tower and the Morinand clock, and walk along the Gollandières beach boardwalk : from this wooden bridge, built to protect the dunes from erosion created by walkers and cyclists, you will have beautiful views over the dunes, beaches and the ocean as far as the eye can see. Stroll through the pretty alleys and winding alleys decorated with fragrant roses, discover the winegrower's houses with carts and linger on the market of the town : reputed to be the most important of the whole Ile de Ré, the Bois-Plage market attracts many people in high season. Stroll along its paths, through the stalls full of fresh fruit and seasonal vegetables, and taste the rich and gourmet local flavours, the fruit of centuries of tradition. Indeed, since the arrival of Cistercian monks in the 12th century on the Ile de Ré, the cultivation of salt, vines and oysters have been at the heart of local traditions. Thus during your stay, you will be able to taste the wines of the winegrowers of the Ile de Ré, potatoes, oysters, goat cheese, salicornes, but also sea urchins, shrimps, crabs, squid and other sea products, which are true a treat for the taste buds.

To recommend: walking (very pleasant path in the forest), Village Océanique, Sainte Marie de Ré, village of Bois Plage en Ré (beautiful market to recommend) and La Flotte (le Port) . Crossing in the forests, between the vineyards, in the pedestrian streets and the small streets of the villages with their beauty. Shops and restaurants to choose from.
