Fancy a break in the heart of nature? Gourmet moments, sporting hikes, lazing by the water? Head for South Corsica, and more precisely the small village of Casalabriva.

In the heart of hills covered with scrub, high chestnut trees and fragrant oaks, Casalabriva is just a few steps away from the beaches of the Isle of Beauty, 5 kilometres from Olmeto, 8 kilometres from Petrto-Bicchisano and 3 kilometres from Sollacaro. A land of contrasts, it stretches along the edge of the Taravu River up to the ridges of Punta di i Purcili perched at 1114 metres above sea level. Rich in ancient history, the village has given researchers some treasures from its past, such as the dolmen of Musuleddu. But the inventory of the sites to be seen in the village does not stop there, as you can also discover at the exit of Casalabriva an ancient castle, perched on a ridge overlooking the Cilccia pass. Walking through the village and its surroundings, you will also discover the medieval imprint that can be seen in some of its buildings, particularly the church of Santa Lucia on the Strada Taravesa, a transhumance route whose origins are said to date back to the Bronze Age. Today, the village, nestled in the hollow of the vegetation, boasts beautiful grey stone houses with beautiful orange tile roofs, offering the visitor superb contrasts to discover. Here, one feels like taking one's time; taking one's time to visit the parish church of Saint-Michel, strolling in the heart of the old town where one has the impression that time has stood still. Take the time also to pass by the fountain that has been enthroned in the heart of the village since August 1864, and to cross the Calzola Bridge, also called the "twisted bridge", to escape in the direction of the neighbouring villages.

Whether you are on foot or by bike, in Casalabriva there are many hiking trails that you will find, and which will allow you to discover the singularity of the landscapes of Southern Corsica. The GR20 in particular, intended for experienced hikers, will lead you through the island's relief and abundant nature, via some of the most challenging technical trails in Europe. 11 kilometres from the heart of the village, Filitosa, the Prehistoric Site of Corsica, is a must to see: a Mecca of Corsican Prehistory, a true jewel of megalithic art, this site considered by scientists as one of the most enigmatic places on the island offers its visitors an exceptional encounter with more than 8000 years of history. Statue-menhirs, remains of period furniture, monuments and other archaeological discoveries will plunge you into the heart of Prehistory thanks to a playful thematic tour that will amaze young and old alike.

But staying at Casalabriva also means being able to take advantage of the charms of the coast without being overcrowded, as the town has the particularity of being located only a dozen minutes drive from some of the most beautiful beaches in Corsica! For swimming? Direction Olmeto and its beaches of Campitellu, Calanca, Marinca beach or Vereicella. Lazing in the sun, refreshing breezes, but also boat trips in the direction of Propriano, horse riding on the beach, paragliding, kayaking and other water activities will make this stay in Corsica an unforgettable experience!
