Watered by the sweetness of the Eygues and generously served by the sun, Nyons, crowned "Most Beautiful Detour of France", takes place in the heart of the Parc Naturel des Baronnies Provençales, 60 kilometres north of Avignon. From shaded medieval squares to arcaded alleys, there are many café terraces in the heart of downtown Nyons, as well as local craft shops where you can find many treasures such as the delicious lavender honey, of which Nyons has the secret. The "Place des Arcades" is one of the most important places in the town, as is the district of forts, the delphinal palace, the church of Saint-Vincent-et-Saint-Cézaire with its fortified Gothic bell tower, but also the Tour Randonne, a former military prison, as well as the Romanesque bridge. Classified as a Historic Monument in 1925, this magnificent bridge, entirely built of ashlar, spans the course of the Eygues from the top of its 18 metres, and is one of the most beautiful postcards in the city. The Olive Tree Museum, the Archaeological Museum, the old oil mills and the Garden of Flavours are to be added to the long list of things to do during your stay in Nyons, in order to perfect your local Provençal culture.
A sporting country, Nyons and its surroundings are crossed by more than 400 kilometres of marked hiking trails, as well as by 8 cycle routes from the town that will take you through its scented lavender fields, its vineyards, its olive grove classified as remarkable sites of taste, its fruit orchards composed of apricots, cherries and plums, to the villages of Montaulieu, Venterol or Aubres. If you like horseback riding, then Nyons is definitely the place for you, thanks to its 2500 kilometres of signposted routes that run through the whole department. The "Barjavel Circuit", the "Lavender Route" and the "Olive Tree Route" are three essential routes in the area, which will allow you to discover some of the most beautiful sites, villages and panoramas that the Drôme. If you like thrilling activities, you can opt for a paragliding flight over Nyons, or enjoy the 1500 climbing routes in the heart of the cliffs of the Baronnies Provençales Regional Natural Park. If you are in Nyons for a family holiday, then don't miss the "Nyonsoléïado Water Park", a sports complex where you will find a swimming pool, a lagoon, whirlpools, but also slides, waterfalls, rivers...
