45 minutes from Nîmes and Montpellier, Saint-Clément is located in the Gard department, on the border of the Hérault. Watered by the Quinquillan stream and the Pont de César stream, this little corner of tranquility near the Camargue Regional Natural Park is the perfect place to settle down for a relaxing holiday, far, very far from the major tourist destinations of Languedoc-Roussillon.
The major asset of this village that some might describe as "lost in the countryside"? Its green, wooded setting, which will allow you to disconnect completely. Take the time to stroll along its old streets, cross its charming bridges that cross the streams, to discover the oil mills, the sheepfold, the lime kiln, the grain mill, or the remains of the medieval castle that attest to the distant origins of Saint-Clément and its agricultural vocation. Hikers? You have come to the right place. The village of Saint-Clément is located just at the foot of the mountain called "Le Bois de Paris": located in the hinterland, in the middle of the fragrant garrigue, this mountain has several walking routes, which will allow you to discover it from start to finish. During your excursion, do not miss the "Grotte du Bois de Paris", as well as the wood orientation table. From this site, located at the top of this high limestone hill, you can discover magnificent panoramas over the entire Virdoule valley, but also over the countryside to the Mediterranean in the distance.
Le Virdoule, which flows not far from Saint-Clément, is the setting for many activities with family and friends. Taking its source in the heart of the Cévennes mountains, this small coastal river crosses 28 villages between the Gard and the Hérault, to finally finish its journey in the Mediterranean. Particularly pleasant, its banks are ideal for hiking, horseback riding or mountain biking. The river will satisfy water sports enthusiasts, who can canoe, paddle, kayak, and even via ferrata on the Saint-Series side, 15 kilometres from Saint-Clément.
In the surroundings, the town of Sommières (6 kilometres away) is worth a visit, for the beauty of its old medieval town and castle, but also for its famous market, which is held on Wednesday evening and Saturday morning. Nîmes being only 25 kilometres away, take the opportunity to make a detour: you will discover its many Roman remains, its Magne Tower, its famous arenas, but also its Square House (an ancient temple dedicated to Caius Cesar and Lucius Cesar), its Fountain Gardens, its Clock Tower and its Halls. Twenty kilometres further on, the mythical Pont du Gare crosses the Gardon river poetically with its arches. Local pride and a real architectural feat, it is one of those famous sites to see at least once in your life! The Mer de Rochers on the heights of the village of Sauve (10 kilometres from Saint-Clément), but also the cliffs of the Coutach forest, the steam train of the Cévennes, Montpellier and its street-art, or the beaches of Palavas-les-Flots, Le-Grau-du-Roi or Mauguio (less than 45 minutes away) will give rhythm to your holidays under the sun.
