Nestled in the heart of the Landes forest and bordered by the largest freshwater lake in France, the seaside resort of Carcans enjoys a wide range of sporting activities for young and old. Lulled by the Atlantic Ocean, the beaches of Carcans are renowned as excellent surf, kitesurf and bodyboard spots. Large, quiet and sunny, the central beach is the easiest to access : supervised in summer, it is the favourite beach for families who come to swim and play on the sand in complete safety. In its continuity, at the level of the city centre, is the southern beach : this immense expanse runs along several kilometres of the Carcan coastline. After crossing its high dunes, settle comfortably on the fine sand, facing the ocean, for long afternoons of idleness. Just like the central beach, it is ideal for sailing and surfing: many surfers meet there as soon as the first rays of sunshine.
On the lake side, three beautiful beaches will be at your disposal: the most pleasant is surely Bombannes. In the shade of the pines, this magnificent place will please vacationers in love with natural spaces. Unquestionably family, it has many facilities, conducive to fun and rest. Lie down in one of the small wooden huts by the water for a relaxing break, rent a pedal boat for an excursion on the lake, learn water skiing or play beach volleyball with friends! Bordered by numerous restaurants, Maubuisson beach is the main beach on Lake Carcans. Here, no sports facilities, the place is entirely dedicated to family swimming : equipped with your parasols and your tubes of sun cream (here, the sun is there), enjoy the calm of this beach to read a book or enjoy a good ice cream. Montaut beach will delight water sports aficionados : with its deeper waters, it is ideal for surfing, canoeing, catamarans, pedal boats and boat trips. But above all, the lake is renowned as a paradise for sailing lovers thanks to its 6,000 hectares : several schools and associations can introduce you to the practice of this sport so popular in the region. In addition to all the practices mentioned above, you can also play tennis, tree climbing, climbing, sand yachting, archery and mini-golf : so many fun activities for the whole family.
Finally, the natural setting of the lake invites you to escape and stroll: whether you are on foot, on horseback or by bicycle, walk through the dunes, the pine forest and the marshes that border its green banks. The city of Carcans is also criss-crossed by more than 120 kilometres of hiking trails, for all levels. We recommend the Boucle des Cavales for a perfect discovery of the city and its surroundings : 12 kilometres long, it will take you through the dunes, the lake and the coastal paths... allowing you to enjoy magnificent views over the ocean, the Médoc vineyards and the Landes de Gascogne forest.

Restaurant "L'Atelier": super good table, excellent welcome and top-notch food for lunch and dinner. Not to mention Feuillet ice creams (ice cream maker since 1966): an infinite choice of flavours, each better than the last.

We ate in several restaurants in Maubuisson all well. If you like oriental cuisine, stop at the "Secret Garden", a small restaurant around the Place du Pôle: Madam at the kitchen, Mr at the service, two adorable people, delicious and cheap dishes in a simple setting just like them, is worth a visit.
