It is in Haute-Loire, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, that the small village of Champagnac-le-Vieux is located. In the heart of the magnificent Livradois-Forez Natural Park, perched at an altitude of 900 metres, this ancient fortified village with its agricultural tradition is a real delight for nature and outdoor enthusiasts.

About sixty kilometres from Le Puy-en-Velay, and 15 kilometres from Brioude, Champagnac-le-Vieux is a singular place from many points of view. Impressive by its apparent calm and its preserved panoramas, this village is as impressive for the splendour of its buildings, inherited from its glorious past. A fortified village and royal fort in the Livarois Mountains, the elegant Champagnac-le-Vieux developed during the Middle Ages, as its splendid heritage testifies today. The church of Saint-Pierre, a former priory that once depended on the abbey of Chaise-Dieu, was fortified during the 14th century and nowadays boasts an intact Romanesque part dating from its construction. Thanks to its privileged location, at the crossroads of major communication routes, the village was also equipped with a defensive fort as early as the 14th century, as well as an enclosure at the end of the 15th century which has now been destroyed. If there is indeed a visit to be made, it is that of the castle of Domeyrat. Located about twenty minutes from Champagnac-le-Vieux, the Château de Domeyrat has been perched for over 800 years above the village of the same name, an emblematic site of the feudal heritage of the region, and is today a cultural place that cannot be ignored, which is alive today thanks to historical events and exhibitions.

Ah... How beautiful the Haute-Loire is! And how rich is its countryside! Rich in fields, pastures, thick woods, mountains, lakes and hiking trails, perfect for sports enthusiasts and occasional walkers who will be able to discover the beauty (and tranquillity!) of the area around Champagnac-le-Vieux via signposted itineraries.

After frolicking between fields full of cows, head for the lake of Champagnac-le-Vieux. A small lake of 3.5 hectares, nestled in the hollow of tall, bushy, fragrant pines, this pond has everything to please families. Here, you will be spoilt for choice: shaded grass beaches where you can play beach volleyball, sandy beaches where you can sunbathe, sports courses, basketball or pétanque courts, children's playgrounds, pike, trout or carp fishing areas, and fresh water where you can splash around quietly... Not forgetting the hiking trails, Summer activities (concerts, competitions, themed evenings...), marked trails for mountain biking and horse riding, this Blue Flag lake is definitely a must to discover during your stay in Champagnac-le-Vieux.
