A few steps away from Switzerland, Abondance is located in the heart of a natural region full of wonders to discover. In the department of Haute-Savoie, within the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, this town of the French Chablais is at the origin of the Abondance cheese, produced locally thanks to the milk of the abondance cows. In the high valley of the Dranse, a natural region located in the south and in the mountains of the Savoyard Chablais, Abondance is dominated by the Mont de Grange and the Mont Chauffé, which are respectively 2432 and 2093 meters high. A rural commune above all, Abondance is worth a visit for its dense and varied heritage. Also, during your stay, it is impossible not to stop by the Abbey of Abondance, founded in 1108 by canons. Listed as a historical monument since 1836, it is without doubt one of the most impressive sites in the town, as is the Notre-Dame-d'Abondance church. Built around 1275, it is worth a visit for its magnificent 14th century gothic cloister but also for its 15th century murals. The museum of religious art, the Maison du Val d'Abondance, without forgetting the beauty of the traditional chalets which cover the area of Abondance will not fail to plunge you into the heart of the Savoyard atmosphere!
As for walks, there is plenty to do in Abondance at any time of the year! The Lake of Tavaneuse and its wonderful field of rhododendrons of the Alps is a must, as well as the mountain pasture of Autigny which will allow you to contemplate a breathtaking panoramic view of the French and Swiss Alps, as well as of the Pre-Alps. About 30 kilometers south of Lake Geneva, the village resort of Abondance is ideally located, right at the entrance of the Portes Du Soleil ski area! If in winter the practice of alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, but also dog sledding, ice car driving sessions, ski joëring and ice skating are legion, in summer, it is obviously the hiking that is the queen activity! Thanks to a lot of marked itineraries, a large choice of walks is offered to you, but you will also have the opportunity to discover Abondance and its region by mountain bike, to do via ferrata, white water sports, accrobranche, climbing, fishing in the lake or paragliding...
