Rich with a grandiose heritage, the territory of Baratier is perfect for history lovers. This village does not fail to celebrate its past through many guided tours of the most important sites. The oldest vestige found in the commune is a dagger blade dating from the Bronze Age. Other unusual monuments are to be discovered in the surroundings. Today a symbol of the city, the sniper served both for the personal use of local residents and for commercial use. We can't miss Saint-Chaffrey's church either. Built in the 15th century, its sober and bare interior is typical of churches in the Durance valley. But the historic site of Baratier is undoubtedly the archaeological site of the Monges hutch. It has been said for a long time that this site had been inhabited : the pre-Roman voice of passage located nearby, the coins found... Yet it was only in 2005 that archaeological excavations began on these sites. They lead to a phenomenal discovery : the remains of a 4th century Gallo-Roman villa ! The site is now protected and accompanied by panels explaining its origins and discovery. During school holidays, guided tours of the site or other monuments of the city are organized each week to satisfy history lovers.
