Ah, the Emerald Coast... Just the name makes you wonder. And what about its beaches, its dream coves, and its famous seaside resorts? For a stay under the sign of elegance and escape, head for Saint-Lunaire.
It is in the department of Ille-et-Vilaine, on the border with the Côtes-d'Armor, that the charming commune of Saint-Lunaire is located. Halfway between Saint-Malo and Cap Fréhel, this neighbouring seaside resort of Dinard is a true haven of peace perfect for a relaxing and exotic holiday. With its rugged landscapes, cliffs, discovery trails and beaches, this former fishing village lives by the tides and wind. Saint-Lunaire is a family resort that is easily discovered on foot: take the boulevard de la plage to find its magnificent captain's houses and its typically Breton residences made of granite and grey roofs. The "Old Romanesque Church" is one of the most beautiful examples of 11th century Breton architecture: with its chandeliers and tombs, it is one of the most important churches on the coast. Many Belle-Époque villas dot the lunar seaside: the Grand Hôtel in particular, is one of the most elegant witnesses of this period. Located above the Grande Plage, it is the most famous villa in Saint-Lunaire. The villa La Côtière, that of Haute Roche, the villa du Cap-Horniers at 152 Boulevard de la Plage, the villa of La Mésangère, that of Sainte-Anne or Kilmalieu are also worth a visit, for the splendour of their architecture.
Hiking enthusiasts? You've come to the right place! True to Brittany's reputation, Saint-Lunaire has many hiking, horseback riding and cycling routes through its hills and along its coastline. On the seaside, the GR34 is one of the musts for walkers looking for grandiose blue panoramas. From the Pointe du Nick to the Pointe de la Garde Guérin and the Pointe du Décolle, the landscapes follow one another without being the same, revealing wonderful views of the rugged shores and the ocean as far as the eye can see. The Pointe du Décolle, well known to the inhabitants of the town, is one of the essential sites for your holidays: with its elegant 19th century residences and breathtaking panoramas stretching from the Bay of Saint-Malo to Cap Fréhel, it is one of the most visited sites in Saint-Lunaire. We particularly recommend that you go there in the early morning, when the sun rises and the sea is calm, or when the sun sets and shades of flaming red and orange tint the sky with their magic.
Beaches: this is Saint-Lunaire's major asset. Between the Pointe du Décolle and the Pointe du Nick, the Grande Plage de Saint-Lunaire is the most popular: recognizable by its small bathing cabins with red and white striped roofs, this sheltered family beach is ideal for moments of rest under the Breton sun. Bordered by a beautiful promenade, it also has a children's club and a water sports centre. Surfing, catamaran, dinghy, windsurfing, paddle or kayak, many activities are offered on this beach, to the delight of sportsmen. Surfing and sliding sports enthusiasts will also be able to opt for the beach of La Fourberie, or even for the beach of Longchamp. Finally, the cove of Pointe du Nick and the beach of La Fosse aux Vaults, more confidential, will allow you to take beautiful breaks along the Bretillian coast.
