Visiting Amboise is like embarking on a journey through time, an amazing and grandiose journey in which you can discover the apogee of the Renaissance and its jewels. Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this high cultural site invites you to escape into the heart of a generous natural environment, as only the Loire Valley has the secret.
Amboise, a renowned Royal city, is a well-known address for Loire Valley castle aficionados. With its white stone houses with slate roofs, its castles, its Clock Tower and its half-timbered houses, the city of Amboise is one of those cities where it is pleasant to stroll. The banks of the Loire will allow you to discover the most beautiful faces of this city of character, during walks or bike rides, why not if you feel like it! Or would you prefer to contemplate the legends and stories that surround Amboise from a toue ligérienne (a typical Loire boat), or on board a canoe?
After a break to taste on the terrace of the Bigot pastry shop or a refreshing stop at the bar Le Shaker (well known for its wonderful panoramas), continue your discovery of Amboise in the direction of the one who made its reputation: its castle. From the Middle Ages to the 19th century, this legendary castle was in turn the residence of King Charles VIII, Queen Anne of Brittany, but also of François I and saw Leonardo da Vinci evolve. With its fragrant gardens with a sweet Italian feel (like the Naples Garden), its wonderful panoramas and its Oriental Gardens, the Royal Castle of Amboise was awarded the "Remarkable Garden" label in 2017. The highlight of your visit, you will enjoy losing yourself and contemplating incomparable views of this majestic castle. You can of course visit it to discover its large rooms decorated with cosy furniture of Gothic inspiration (such as its Council Chamber decorated with fleurs-de-lis and ermine), its Renaissance furniture, its refined decorations, its royal dwellings and its large horse towers, from which the 360° views of landscapes listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites are worth a look. The Chapel of Saint-Hubert is also worth a visit: in addition to being a real jewel of flamboyant Gothic art, well known for its finely carved door, you can visit it to discover Leonardo da Vinci's tomb in its heart.
The Château du Clos Lucé and the 7 hectares of its Leonardo da Vinci park are true wonders not to be missed! It was in the fall of 1516 that Master Leonardo da Vinci placed his easels in this red brick mansion, a marvel of the Renaissance. Away from the escapades of the Court, the artist lived there for nearly 3 years, and organized many sumptuous receptions and popular celebrations. It is also where he will find inspiration for many of his projects: an immense open-air museum, the Clos Lucé park is dotted with numerous machines and works born of the imagination of the whimsical Florentine genius.
A little further on, the Domaine Royal de Château Gaillard and its orange trees are a perfect haven of peace of Mediterranean inspiration. In the shade of its century-old trees, you will love walking to discover all the beauty of this secular garden dotted with landscaped paths, and will easily understand why it was one of King Francis I's small preserved paradises.
Finally, for wonderful views of the Loire Valley, the Château d'Amboise and its forest, we recommend that you visit the Chanteloup Pagoda: from its 44 metres high, it offers a panoramic view of all that is most beautiful in the region. The most courageous can opt for a hot air balloon flight over the region: a breathtaking journey!

We were supposed to see the castles, but because of the confinement, the stay was reduced. So we can't give out any good plans. Except to go to Beauval Zoo, which is 45 minutes away.

To visit: the castle of Amboise (beautiful walk through the gardens), the Clos Lucé, the castle of Chenonceau (a jewel of the renaissance which presented the life of the people at that time). The castle of Chambord for the curious staircase where you don't cross each other when going up or down.

We went to the Beauval zoo, great and two days very good. The restaurants in the centre of Amboise are always full and refuse people. Very difficult to eat.

A nice activity to do: the visit of the castle of Chenonceau. Castle as nice inside as outside without going for miles. Note the cleanliness of the site and a self-service restaurant not bad at all. And in addition, there is even a gourmet restaurant!
