Just south of the twisting meanders of the Adour, the village of Cassen is the perfect place for those who want a relaxing holiday, far from the hustle and bustle of the big tourist destinations, far from stress and pollution... Typical village of Chalosse, 20 kilometres east of Dax and about forty minutes from the first ocean beaches, Cassen is situated between the Adour river in the north and the Louts river which delimits its territory in the south. Here, there is little chance of meeting a crowd of tourists. The village is quiet, nestled in a green cocoon both comforting and exotic. On the heritage side, the town's church is worth seeing, as is its old communal wash-house nestling in the hollow of a valley, which was once used for washing clothes, like the Rousséou fountain. But what attracts the visitor here is above all the lake of the commune, called "La Marnière". A small jewel of tranquillity nestled in the heart of a thick forest, it is decorated with tables for picnics and offers a perfect setting for solitude and reading, hiking, meditation, fishing, and finding coolness on hot summer days.
Le Louts, which waters and draws the contours of the town, is also a perfect site for walks. To allow you to walk along its banks, and to discover the smallest secrets of Cassen, three hiking trails have been designed through the village and its surroundings. In the direction of the Adour valley in the north, or the Louts valley in the south, these circuits will offer you each time incomparable panoramas on the Marnière pond, the Louts and the surrounding vegetation.
Fancy a little city break? Direction Dax! With its many small restaurants, its legendary thermal baths, its museums, its ramparts and its arenas, Dax is undoubtedly one of the most outstanding destinations in the Landes. Fancy a break at the sea to complete your stay? Head for Moliets-et-Mâa! Basque pelota, surfing, lazing around, accrobranche, paddle, swimming, but also cycling, pétanque, mini-golf, paddle yoga, kitesurfing and other water activities for the whole family. We really enjoyed our meal at the restaurant "Le Brasero" in Saint Paul les Dax at about 15 min by car, the town of Soustons on the coast is very charming and lively as well. Spain is about 1h15 by car. Have a nice stay

I recommend the farmhouse inn "La Déesse des Gourmets", the "Pizz' À Gégé" and the "Relais des Chênes" in Cassen. Check the opening hours carefully though. There is a market crossroads in Hinx which is open even on Sunday mornings; there is also an Intermarché in Ponthonx.
