Elegant buildings, beaches as far as the eye can see, rich culture and exciting history make Quinéville the perfect destination for family holidays at any time of the year. From the tranquillity of its landscapes in March to its colourful panoramas during summer sunsets, to its soft shades during winter walks by the sea, Quinéville is, as always, a wonderful idea for an exotic holiday in the north of the Cotentin.
Ah, Quinéville... Located in the department of Manche, in Normandy, Quinéville is a very small town, populated by less than 300 people all year round. Elegant as one could wish, this coastal town faces the clear waters of the English Channel, about sixty kilometres from Saint-Lô, 15 kilometres north of Utah Beach. Inhabited since antiquity, Quinéville was heavily impacted by the Second World War, during which landings took place just a few kilometres from its lands. If it was heavily bombed, it still retains a remarkable building and a charming heritage that you can discover during your walks. To see? The 11th-century Notre-Dame church, which is worth a visit for its two bell towers, one absolutely splendid Romanesque, the other from the 19th century. Not far from there, the castle of Quinéville is one of the richest buildings in the town. Rebuilt during the 17th century in place of a very old castle, this elegant monument is emblematic of those found in the region, with a splendid central pavilion and a park where you can have a good time. In the heart of the park, you can discover an old ice-house as well as a Grande Cheminée, a remnant of a 2nd century construction and listed as a Historic Monument.
But what definitely does not lack charm in Quinéville is its waterfront full of history. Liberated on 17 June 1944 after having been occupied by the Germans, Quinéville pays tribute to its history thanks to its Memorial of the Found Liberty located right on the sea front. The "World War II Museum", that's its name, will plunge you into the heart of the main events of the Second World War in Normandy, thanks to a chronological exhibition made of vehicles, blockhouses, mannequins, music and period objects, which will fascinate young and old alike. From Quinéville, you will also find many marked footpaths, walking, horse riding or cycling trails, which will allow you to reach the D-Day landing beaches located just a few minutes away, such as Utah Beach, Omaha Beach, or Sainte-Marie-du-Mont.
In addition to its undeniable historical side, Quinéville is also a seaside resort. With its kilometre long beach stretching from the mouth of the Sinope to the town of Fontenay-sur-Mer, the landscapes here are natural and unspoilt, far from the major concrete seaside destinations. The invitation to enjoy the charms of nature is irresistible, both thanks to the dunes that make you want to go for a walk or a picnic in peace and quiet, and thanks to the beauty of the beach. Under a radiant sun, or on overcast days, swimming is always a popular activity here, as are walks with your feet in the water at sunset, sailing, surfing, paddling, swimming and lazing around to the sound of the melodious murmur of the English Channel waves. Finally, a visit to the artisanal biscuit factory, a golf session at the 18-hole golf course, or even a tennis match by the sea will undoubtedly complete your Normandy stay.
