Perched at an altitude of 850 metres in the Haute-Dordogne valley, La Bourboule is one of those peaceful small towns where it is pleasant to stroll and rest in the shade of its beautiful wooded squares. You will be surprised by the richness and splendour of the many wealthy establishments that the resort has to offer: testifying to the splendour of the Belle Époque, thermal baths, palaces, casinos and other elegant sites dot the streets of the town. The town hall in particular is worth a visit: formerly the Casino des Thermes at the end of the 19th century, it impresses with its imposing caryatids (statues). Its balcony, Italian towers, cast iron staircase, paintings, pillars and decorated pediments make it one of the most splendid monuments in La Bourboule. Continue your visit by passing in front of the magnificent Rozier bakery to admire its elaborate front, stroll along the many bridges and footbridges that cross the Dordogne and Vendeix rivers, and wander along Boulevard Georges Clemenceau: with its baroque, art deco or neoclassical façades, its terraces, its elegant esplanades and its villas typical of thermal destinations, it is one of the most beautiful witnesses of the Belle Époque in La Bourboule. The Grands Thermes (1872), the Saint-Joseph church (1885) and the Casino (1892) are also not to be forgotten: the latter, absolutely majestic, will dazzle you with its beautiful exterior and the almost intact state of its slot machine room.

For "green" visits, the Parc Fenestre is the resort's reference: on the left bank of the Dordogne, this English-style park is planted with about a hundred imposing sequoias, perfect for walks in the shade on hot summer days. With its 200 species of plants, it is one of the oldest botanical gardens in France, and a popular place for families to share: on its 12 hectares, you can find numerous playgrounds, a miniature golf course, a small train, bumper cars, slides, swings, a mini amusement park, a refreshment bar or an adventure course. If the park has several itineraries, a path is particularly recommended for hikers: the "Chemin des Investisons", 5 kilometres long, will allow you to reach the Charlannes plateau in a few minutes. This site, a real green lung of the commune, is also a small walking paradise. It is also an paradise for lovers of winter activities: snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and snowball battles will be on the programme when the snow has covered the valleys of La Bourboule with its thick coat.
