Far, far away from the traditional tourist destinations, Montpezat-de-Quercy is located in the heart of the Occitanie region, in the country of caves and castles. The gateway to the Regional Natural Park of the Causses du Quercy, this bastide of the Quercy Blanc is one of those typical villages that the region has the secret. Here, life is organized around the central square of the village, the Place de la Résistance, surrounded by covered, half-timbered houses that overhang the arcades where onlookers like to stroll in search of freshness. Built by Cardinal Pierre des Prés in the 14th century, the collegiate church of Saint-Martin, in southern Gothic style, is one of the pearls of Montpezat-de-Quercy: with its 5 Flemish tapestries that depict the life of Saint-Martin de Tours, and its splendid architecture, it is undoubtedly one of the sites not to be missed during your stay. From squares to flowery squares, from the Place du Réduch to the Place Frédéric Cayrou, via the Place du Bicentenaire, let yourself be led through the narrow streets of the village. Pass through the 14th century Porte de la Ville, and discover the 15th century Collège des Chanoines, and the Couvent des Ursulines, known for its absolutely magnificent cloister. Once surrounded by ramparts, the remains of which you can still admire today, this city built on the last foothills of Quercy will not fail to amaze lovers of history, but also of beautiful stones thanks to its Renaissance houses decorated with white stones characteristic of the region.
The region of Montpezat-de-Quercy is dotted with a myriad of hiking trails and offers walkers and cyclists alike a wide range of sporting, bucolic and contemplative itineraries, depending on your wishes. Some sites located nearby are particularly recommended for cultural visits. What to see? The marvellous medieval village of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, elected Most Beautiful Village in France, for its incredible panoramic views of the Lot below, or the village of Cabrerets on the banks of the Célé. The fortress of Penne, as if straight out of a knight's film, the Château de la Reine Margot, the Pech-Merle cave, the Garrigues cave or the Vipère, Touryès, Bosc and Trassadou caves, but also Cahors and its fabulous cloister, Montauban and its City of Art and History, are all magnificent places that you can discover during your stay in Montpezat-de-Quercy.
