His birth certificate dates back to the mid-1930s when the villages of Tignes and Val d'Isère developed their winter sports activities and built their first cable car. It was not until 1971, however, that the two resorts were linked together and a few more years before this vast domain took the name of the great French ski champion. Today, Tignes-Val d'Isère groups together the ski areas of Val d'Isère and the five villages of Tignes : Tignes Lavachet, Tignes Le Lac, Tignes Val Claret, Tignes Les Boisses and Tignes Les Brévières.
