Halfway between the Verdon and the Mediterranean, between the Côte d'Azur and Provence, the commune of Les Arcs-sur-Argens is a charming destination. Located in the Argens valley and bordered by the Massif des Maures, the commune of Les Arcs offers its lucky visitors some of the most beautiful faces of the Var to contemplate. 25 kilometres from the beaches of the Mediterranean and only 100 kilometres from the first ski resorts of the Southern Alps, the municipality enjoys a definitely privileged location for a holiday in the countryside. A popular destination for lovers of old stones and wine, about ten kilometres south of Draguignan, Les Arcs-sur-Argens has a rich natural and historical heritage. To discover its most beautiful features, you will have to visit "Le Parage", the medieval city of Les Arcs: dominated by a 19-metre high keep called "Tour Sarrasine", this former district inhabited by the local nobility is a place to stroll. Along its intertwined streets dotted with numerous fountains, you will discover some of the most beautiful sites in the town, such as the Place de l'Horloge and its fortified gate, the ruins of the old ramparts, Place Paul Simon and the source of the Saule fountain. Take the rue de Sospel to discover the Roman Columbarium, and don't miss the Place du Père Clinchard, famous for its superb wrought iron fountain. From the heights of the village, you can contemplate sublime views over the whole town and the surrounding valleys. In this landscape, the mill of Sainte-Cécile, the chapel of Saint Roch and the chapel of Sainte Roseline deserve your full attention. The latter in particular, is the current witness of an old abbey built during the 11th century. Push its door open to discover its rich interior decor, its gilded wooden altarpiece, its stained glass windows, its contemporary works of art and its mosaic entitled "Meals of the Angels" made by Marc Chagall.
Far from the hustle and bustle of big cities, Les Arcs offers its visitors beautiful moments of calm, in the heart of a city with an outdated charm, as if frozen in time and history. In addition to its beautiful heritage and centuries-old stones, the commune of Les Arcs is a privileged place for hiking and family excursions, whether you choose to explore the surroundings on foot or by bike. If you feel like it, climb up to the top of Castel Diaou, the highest point of Les Arcs at 353 metres above sea level: from this magnificent site perched in the heart of a cork oak forest, you can enjoy a 360° panoramic view of a large part of the Massif des Maures, the Rocher de Roquebrune and the Massif de l'Estérel. Many hiking trails start in the heart of the Arcs, through its surrounding mountains and vineyards, such as the "Les Menhirs des Terriers" trail, a 14-kilometre itinerary that will lead you to discover the 9 menhirs of the town, millenary remains and witnesses of the occupation of the Arcs long ago. The "Cabredor" itinerary follows the bed of the Argens for several kilometres for a refreshing and breathtaking walk, with breathtaking views of the Eiffel Bridge and Roquebrune Rock.
The place also lends itself wonderfully to whitewater activities, along the meanders of the Argens. From the base of Les Arcs, in the shade of hundred-year-old oaks, it will be possible for you to practice many activities in the heart of nature, such as mountain biking, mountain biking and canoeing in particular: finally, for those who love sliding, a 14-kilometre descent punctuated by numerous rapids will allow you to discover the landscapes of the Massif des Maures in a sporting way.
