Banyuls-sur-Mer owes its name to the Latin "Balneolis" ("lagoon" in French) and, while discovering the places, it is not difficult to understand why. On the way, discover all the beauty and richness of the hinterland : its vineyards, its signal towers dating from the 13th century, the Notre-Dame de la Salette chapel...
During your stay in Banyuls-sur-Mer, also take the time to discover the village's heritage : the 12th century Romanesque church of the Rectorie, the works of Aristide Maillol, the local child, scattered throughout the resort, and the museum that gathers other creations by the artist. Within the Biodiversarium, visit the oldest aquarium on the Mediterranean coast and the Mas de la Serre garden, a 3 hectare park with over 300 local plant species. In the evening, sit on the terrace of a good restaurant and enjoy all the flavours of Catalan cuisine : cod brandade, anchovies from Collioure, boles of picolat, Catalan cream cakes...
