In the heart of the Costa Dorada, Ametlla de Mar is a Catalan town with undeniable charm. Strongly linked to the sea, fishing has long been the driving economic sector of the city. Today, tourism has added to maritime activity and has greatly influenced the development of the municipality.
The location of Ametlla de Mar has placed it at the heart of many historical events, some of which have left their mark on the city. Nowadays, the Castle of Sant Jordi d'Alfama, a fortress built in 1732, is a survivor of these turbulent centuries of history. The Center for the Interpretation of Fishing reconstructs the evolution of the fishery at Ametlla de Mar until its post-war rise, when it became one of the most important ports in Catalonia.
