In the heart of the Maurienne, in the middle of Savoie, the Valmeinier estate is composed of several small hamlets in the traditional Savoyard style. Valmeinier 1800 is the tourist resort par excellence of this high-mountain domain. Located just above Valmeinier 1500, the capital of the village, it is rather centred on winter sports. However, its tourist offer does not stop there, the activities of the resort are numerous. Valmeinier never gets bored 1800 !
Valmeinier is the last of the Maurienne resorts to have seen the light of day. This little gem dedicated to the joys of skiing belongs to the Galibier-Thabor ski area, which has a total of 89 slopes on a surface of 150 kilometres. A large part of the estate is at an altitude of more than 2000 metres, which guarantees a privileged snow cover throughout the season. Skiers and snowboarders of all kinds will not be satisfied with skiing and they are quite right: the area offers several play areas from the snowpark to the toboggan run. They are open to all levels, from the absolute beginner to the experienced skier, and allow you to learn or perfect the discipline of your choice.
In the evening, we come to relax in the heart of the resort. What could be better than a bowling session with friends? We challenge each other in a good mood on the Lebowski slopes to recover from the days of skiing! Film fans should also rejoice, their holidays at altitude will not make them miss the latest releases. A state-of-the-art cinema in a small mountain village, who would have thought? And yet, the cinema of Valmeinier 1800 is well and truly equipped with the latest technologies and gives the opportunity to enjoy, in addition to national releases, previews and films in original version with subtitles.
The resort hosts many sporting and cultural events during the winter. In February, the Carnival comes to brighten hearts in the village. A festive atmosphere that brings young and old together! From February to March, a friendly competition open to all is held every Wednesday. This is the Inter-Residence Challenge, where holidaymakers represent their residences in ski and snowboard races on a special slalom. May the best man win! Finally, on 25 March 2017, Valmeinier will host the French Slope Style Cup on its slopes. This sport, which became an Olympic discipline in 2014, consists of performing a maximum number of acrobatic figures on skis or snowboard. We attended a conference presenting the history of Valmeinier. The high mountain guide (Francis) who gave us the presentation was absolutely fascinating, both historically and in terms of the fauna and its adaptation to today's environment.
